Each time it gets worse and you discover a new rock bottom. I was a homeless heroin addict at a very young age, now I'm 4 years clean (a lot older now though, it took awhile lol) Relapse is unfortunately a part of recovery, but not an excuse. Relapse happens far before the physical act of taking the substance....try and identify it. I don't believe in all the teachings of NA or AA or sponsors, but I do believe having someone in recovery to confide in is priceless. I don't have a sponsor, I have a best friend.

Thank you for sharing that with me, since I posted this which obviously wasn’t that long ago, so it’s nothing to brag about, but I haven’t used since then. I actually separated myself from the people that drug me into it and provided me with that fix when I didn’t need it. I have a close friend that I hadn’t spoken to in a while that I reconnected with and he’s been helping me. I haven’t been able to tell my girlfriend yet that I had a relapse, she would be extremely disappointed. I don’t believe in that process either but I’ve since then been trying to make things better.

It never surprises me when I meet a fellow vet who knows absolutely nothing about all the help the VA offers, whether it be disability compensation, VA privileges, or whatever.
What Iím getting at is I assure you there is help, and I mean professional help. Any and all VA appointments are honored by your employer no questions asked. And god help them is they hold it against you in any way.
I am without a doubt a FUCKING EXPERT on how the VA mental health/substance abuse system works.
Give me a shot and I can help.
PM when you ready. In the long run you will be doing you and your family all the good in the world and you wonít have to worry about missing any hockey games.
These are not handouts from the VA, you earned them bro.

So tbh from my experience with the VA they don’t give a rats ass about you here in MA. I’ve gone to them multiple times for my disability compensation and they denied all except the minimum even with evidence. My VA liaison submitted my paperwork too late so they would honor it with retroactive pay. When I reach out to her for help so she could help me fix it, never received a message or phone call back. I admitted to having PTSD and I’ve admitted to needing help from them. Yes they do offer help to us, however they haven’t been able to keep up with the appointments I make to the point where they have been canceling them and informing me afterwards. I haven’t received any help from the VA even when I tried, it’s hard to admit it but I need help with other things besides addiction and the only thing they offer to me is to call the Veterans Crisis Line. I lost all faith in the VA a long time ago bro.

No offence man but God did not take your wife. It was hour wifes choice to go back to her non physical- whether u want to acknowledge that or not.
I am also in recovery man..one day at a fucking time...noone but an addict can understand how our minds work. There is just nothing more powerful than an addicts brain so it will manipulate the fuck out of us and try to get us back and keep us down. You fought for our country man- now fight for your fucking life...5 minutes at a time

im not religious bro but i am spiritual. You need your higher power and you can deny its existance all you want but its there..higher power source/God/ lightbulb..whatever u want to lable it bud...we are just part of our non physical self as was your wife. She isnt gone man. I hope you can find peace with that one day. In the meanwhile- if not for yourself-for your kids sake...WAKE THE FUCK UP!

if you read all..The Power of Now by Echart Tolle will help you learn to live in the present moment..helped me alot
and also..look up abraham/esther hicks on you tube man ..abraham is an eternal collective of mass conciousness...im sure you will find some comforting words about our life energy and your wifes reemergance
      wish you the best!

No offense taken at all bro, no matter what things happen for a reason. Since posting this I have been completely sober, not even a drop of alcohol and I never had a problem with it anyways. I spend more time at home with my kids and less time at work so I don’t need to depend on our nanny so much. I appreciate everything from all of you, whether it was a dose of tough love, or straight encouragement, thank you all.
