Yes a sheath is the plastic cover that protects the pin.You only need to cut one.You can use it over and over again.You pull the new one off and then slide the one you've cut with a scissor on.Its in no way unsanitary I used that method for years.Was just trying to help if you dont wanna buy different sized pins
