      AAS and prostate

What are you guys doing for prostate enlargement? I wouldlike to see what everyone else is doing or taking. One of my friends usesflomax and says it works good for him. Do any of the supplements like sawpalmetto and the late night infomercial ones work? I don’t have any issues yet,but I’m just trying to be proactive.

Flomax didn't work for me so my Dr. prescribed Hytrin (which is also used to treat high BP) it does a fairly good job controlling the symptoms but I still have to take Stinging Nettle ROOT also - which in my opinion is the BEST over the counter prostate suppliment available!!

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), due to AAS, mainly from DHT and estrogen being too high. Anti-androgens like finastraide and dutastride are worth looking into.
AI's like Aromaisn or Anastrozole will keep estrogen in check. Just know your dose.

It's worth looking into natural supps too
      Beta-sitosterol...heard good things
      Lycopene
      Saw palmetto
      Cranberry
      Stinging nettle
      Quercetin

I know a little bit about prostatitis, BPH, andprostate cancer. I’m far from an expert though. Here is some general epidemiological information on prostate cancer, pharmaceutical and homeopathic remedies to treat forms of prostate disease. Some of the statistics have been pulled from online sources, the rest is just some stuff I remember from over the years….I hope it helps

      - Other than skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men.

      - According to the American Cancer Society, in 2013 238,590 NEW cases of prostate cancer werebe diagnosed; 29,735 men died from prostate cancer
      - in the US, 1 inevery 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer; 1 in every 36 will die from the disease
      - When detected early, the survival outcomes are high; more than 2.5 million men in the United States who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer are still alive today.

Second to treatments, the most common question asked, "what are the risk factors for BPH andprostate cancer". Below are a few:
      - DIET/Nutrition (redmeat and high fat dairy products are important risk factors; caffeine is alsoprostate unfriendly)
      - Age
      - Calcium intake(more than 2000mg/d is a significant risk factor)
      - Bf at or above 25%
      - Zinc deficiency
      - Selenium deficiency
      - omega 3 deficiency
      - elevated estrogenlevels
      - insulin resistance
      - anabolic steroiduse
      - race (diseases ofthe prostate occur more often in African-American men than in men of otherraces)
      - increased IgF1serum levels
      - vitamin D deficiency
      - AAS

With respect to treatments, this will depend on nature of prostate disorder. For BPH,pharmacological options include (in no particular order of importance that I’ma ware of):
      - avodart
      - proscar
      - cardura
      - prazosin
      - afluzosin
      - rapaflo
      - flowmax
      - Cialis

Recommended dietary/lifestyle changes to promote a healthy prostate:
      - increase selenium and/or zinc
      - avoid caffeine and stimulant products
      - increase flaxseed
      - substitute red meatfor fish (no need to eliminate red meat, just regulate consumption)
      - increase cardio
      - increase consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables and decrease processed sugar intake

*Saw Palmetto is unproven and the majority of urologists I know and have worked with do not believe in it at all. Just a few thoughts…..not to be taken as “the truth”. Anyone else who knows more, please help me out.
