My Recent Experience with Protein
Posted this up on another forum a bit back, but wanted to bring it here to gat some good discussion...
I wanted to bring up a topic for discussion as I have found my last several months (no gear used) to be very eye opening. Here is what I have been doing:
- I started running Intermittent Fasting and love it.
- I followed the Leangains plan and unlike previous plans I had been using it has protein levels much lower - around 1g/lb
- I ran a pretty substantial cut and lost about 10 lbs from 162 to about 152 and did lose any strength the entire time. Lifts all remained up with some even improving.
What I had always done before was the 1.5-2g/lb minimum of protein that so many preach now these days. I'm not saying there is anything bad with that approach, but for me I much prefer carbs to eat and to make my meals more enjoyable and I was having just as good of results filling extra from carbs at 1g/lb protein vs 1.5-2g/lb.
So my questions for discussion are:
- has anyone else tried his and noticed the same?
- is the high protein push just by supp companies and reps to push their powders?
- lastly, assuming you are using AAS, do you see the 2g I was told, and what I ran for my first cycle, as a must? Or has anyone seen just as good of gains keeping it lower around 1-1.25g and being able to have more carbs?
Just some food for thought and I'd like to hear some opinions.
Thanks guys!

I'd say roughly 70% of your protein needs to be real food. And honestly, if it ain't broke why try to fix it. You can read a lot....and I mean a lot of differing opinions on all kinds of shit in the bb world today, but when it comes to the basics like protein intake versus muscle/nitrogen retention? You have to have good quality protein...and a lot of it. Not every company is out to rip people off. There are good protein products and bad, just do a little research and build some muscle bro, cause that's what's going to do it.

I feel you there man. I actually don't use any powders. I get all of mine from food sources. I like to eat too much lmao
What's your sweet spot you shoot for? I think when I go on I'll up it a bit and shoot for the 1.5g/lb mark. I think 2 was drastic last time at least for me.

Well, I've been at this shit all of my adult life so when I'm juicing I start at around 2.5 g /lb body weight. If I'm bulking I use 2% milk in one of my shakes per day and up the EFA's. If I'm cutting no milk and of course really clean up the diet.
but when you are trying to get cut, you have to feed your muscles good quality clean lean protein....it is a must bro.
I'd say chicken and white fish like tilapia works very well for most bbuilders. They are easy to digest and great source of protein.

Damn bro!! Fuck yeah I was up around 2.5 for a bit. And I def get hat your ability to synthesis protein When on gear is much higher. I'll prolly end back up around 2 again. But just wanna experiment at first.
I've been really surprised how good I've felt running at just around a ram the last several months.
Appreciate your discussion.
Any others have opinions on this?!
