      Pus when aspirating for blood

Hey bros just a quick question for any vets who may have had same issue.
Was pining my delt as normal and checking for blood was amazed when I pulled back to find pus drawing back into oil making it look like a lava lamp

it isn’t sore, red or warm to the touch but I suspect a abscess of some kind. Or possibly gear that hasn’t broken down? I rotate sites and always use clean injection techniques as far as going to wipe my stoppers on vials before drawing.

Is it possible my gear is dirty and should toss it?
Do I try to drain the pus with a pin and heal it myself at home?
I can’t really seek doctors help due to fact that to the eye and touch it’s completely normal.

anyone who has experienced this will be helpful to chime in

I am no expert, but I would probably go to your doctor and tell them what you found. They'll probably put you on Cephalexin or other like antibiotic for 10 days. I wouldn't try to mess around with it.

      It's nothing serious.

I was getting these yellow aspirations in delt when pinning tne daily with a 1/2" pin.

I think it's just a small deposit of oil and subcutaneous fluid from not getting deep enough in muscle.

Or it's a localized infection, but the body is doing it's job by surrounding foreign substance with fluid to quarantine it from your body until anti bodies deal with it.

This last explaination is what an "ER nurse" told me.

Just lay off pinning the delts for a week. It will go away.

POSSIBLE it's dirty. Possible you weren't aseptic when you injected.

Do you try to drain it? HELLLLL fucking no! Do you really feel confident in your anatomical knowledge & ability to remedy this & NOT make it worse? It's hard enough in an OR with every precaution taken. People in surgery get infections introduced ALL THE TIME! You think you can do better? Don't go doing something stupid like taking a random antibiotic for this, either. There's no way to know what it will actually be sensitive to.

Are you sure it was pus?

Pretty sure it was, I kept the oil with the pus in it at home was going to show doc this afternoon to confirm. I’ll upload a picture when I get home.
As far as I can describe it’s exactly the same as a pimple texture and colour.

i should mention that it also came out of the injection site after pulling it out with a little squeeze (small amount)

Again, I've had this exact experience.

Had it before too it was really painful putting the needle in, I could tell it was mixed with blood too. No localized inflammation or redness or heat. Left it alone for a week or two and it hasn’t happened again.

Small update and info for anyone who has this problem in future
doc thinks it’s what some of you thought it was and leftover or unbroken down deposits from prev injection advised to hang off injecting there for a week or two. No medicine needed.

Thank god it wasn’t an abcess!

Good to hear brother. Update again in a week or so if you would. I am genuinely interested in your well being. I hope all turns out well for you.

If I don't hear back from you in this thread in a week or so, I'll just wait longer I guess haha.
