Bodybuilder faces federal drug charges

The Spokesman-Review

A decorated bodybuilder with a home near Otis Orchards is among 16 people accused of trafficking illegal anabolic steroids imported from China.

Federal agents allege Brad Hollibaugh accepted packages of drugs that were shipped by FedEx between April and August 2013. The charges were filed in Oregon in November.

The drugs were sent by Shane Jack and Landon Britt, two Portland residents who used a car dealership as a front for peddling repurposed controlled substances, according to the federal indictment.

The indictment includes a manifest that lists all shipments from the Portland business investigators allege contained drugs. One other recipient in Spokane is listed by initials. Packages were also sent to several addresses in Everett; Cataldo, Idaho; Lewiston; Kennewick; Seattle; and as far away as Charlotte, N.C.

Federal investigators allege Jack and Britt bought about $500,000 worth of powders from Chinese companies that they then used to manufacture muscle-building drugs in Oregon. As recently as October, Hollibaugh was communicating with Jack via text message about selling the steroids to potential buyers, according to court documents.

Border Patrol agents found more than 7,000 tablets of anabolic steroids from China mailed to a co-defendant, according to court documents.
Hollibaugh was the intended target of an attempted downtown car attack in November 2009, according to previous reports. A known gang member, Cedric E. “Dirty” Burton, was cleared of attempted murder charges in the case but was found guilty of second-degree assault and sentenced to at least three years in prison in August 2010.

A website listing Hollibaugh’s exploits and links to buy calendars featuring his photo says he was named 1997’s Mr. Northwest in the heavyweight division and Mr. Washington in 1990. A message left at the number listed on the website was not returned.

Federal authorities arrested Hollibaugh in Boston last November. He was stripped of his ******** and appointed an attorney. A trial in the case has been tentatively scheduled for November.
