Cocaine use, manufacturing steroids, lands man in jail

SPRINGDALE — A man was arrested on felony drug charges Thursday afternoon after a search of his residence directed by Home Land Security and the Drug Enforcement Administration led to the discovery of cocaine and items suspected to be used for manufacturing steroids.
Andrew George Pollard, 27, was arrested and charged with one class-A misdemeanor for drug paraphernalia, two first-degree felonies for drug possession with intent to distribute and one third-degree felony for possession of a weapon.
According to a probable cause statement filed in connection with the arrest, on May 20 Springdale Dept. of Public Safety Officer Garen Brecke assisted Home Land Security and the DEA in a search of Pollard’s home, located at Juniper Lane in Springdale. At the time Pollard was detained in another state.
Upon searching the home agents found what are alleged to be: a plastic bag with 20 one-gram plastic bags containing suspected cocaine; several chemicals used for the manufacturing of steroids; distributable liquid suspected to be steroids and blister packs in pill forms including 520 Soma pills. Paraphernalia was also found such as a “bullet” used to grind out and snort cocaine. Three guns and cash was located in an area of the home that belonged to Pollard.
About two weeks later on June 5, Pollard was on his way home from Montana State to turn himself in when he was pulled over on state Route 9 near mile marker 25. He was arrested by Brecke around 3:30 p.m.
As they drove toward the jail, Pollard told Brecke he purchased the cocaine in Colorado and weighed it out into one-gram bags, that he gave some of the cocaine away but never sold any. He also said he was purchasing chemicals to make steroids and was selling them in liquid form over the internet. After receiving money wired to him — $250 at a time — he would then send the steroids via U.S. Postal Service.
When asked about the Soma pills – a muscle relaxant – “he just bought a lot of it at one time, then used it cause he liked it,” Pollard said, as reported in the probable cause statement.
Further, according to the statement, Pollard said he used cocaine for the same reason in quantities of about a gram at a time. He claimed the guns and said some of the cash was from selling steroids and another gun.
Pollard’s charges were enhanced because the location of the residence where drugs and paraphernalia were found is located within 1,000 feet of Springdale Elementary School which marks it as a drug-free zone.
Pollard was booked into the Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility. According to booking information Pollards bail stands at $73,885.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
