Raid turns up more than 2 kilos of steroids in Sanitation worker's South Beach home, cops say

September 25, 2014

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A raid at an off-duty city Sanitation Department worker's house turned up more than two and a half kilograms of steroids, police allege.

Police used a warrant to search the home of Lawrence Sciarrone, 31, of the 400 block of McClean Ave. in South Beach, on Tuesday afternoon, according to court papers

Detectives found the steroids - four bottles each of testosterone, nandrolone and trenbolone, and five bottles of sustanon -- in the living room, according to court papers.

Sciarrone told police he got the steroids through a web site, a law enforcement source said. He also has a drunken driving conviction on his record stemming from a 2006 arrest, the source said.

Sciarrone is charged with fifth- and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to information from District Attorney Daniel Donovan's office.

He was arraigned Wednesday in Stapleton Criminal Court and has been released on $3,500 cash bail until his next court appearance Monday.

Sciarrone was hired as a Sanitation worker on October 2007 and is assigned to the Brooklyn North 16 garage, said department spokeswoman Kathy Dawkins.

He's required to report to the Department's Advocate's Office before he can return to duty, Ms. Dawkins said.

They seriously got a warrant for 17 vials? That's easily a personal amount. It's not like he has a full stock
