Morgantown Club 24 owner charged with running steroid distribution network

The owner of a gym in Morgantown, WV has been charged with running a steroid distribution network.




Club 24 Fitness owner Carl R. Benedict, 49, of Morgantown and four associates have been indicted by a federal grand jury in Clarksburg, U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld said.

Benedict, owner of the gym, allegedly used materials procured in China to manufacture, package and sell Human Growth Hormone and Anabolic Steroid compounds, Ihlenfeld said.

Benedict and four associates — Richard J. Pinelli Jr., 27, of Mifflintown, Pennsylvania; Joseph B. Greco, 27, of New Castle, Pennsylvania; Derek S. Starn, 33, of Bridgeport, West Virginia; and Anthony F. DiDomenico III, 28, of Morgantown — have each been charged with one count each of conspiring to distribute HGH, conspiring to distribute anabolic steroids and conspiring to launder money.

* Greco also is charged with smuggling and possessing HGH with intent to distribute it.

* DiDomenico faces additional counts of mailing controlled substances, possession with intent to distribute anabolic steroids, possession with intent to distribute HGH and maintaining drug-involved premises.

* Pinelli also is charged with possession with intent to distribute anabolic steroids, possession with intent to distribute HGH and maintaining drug-involved premises.

The indictment stems from an investigation by the U.S. Postal Service, the Food and Drug Administration, the Mon Valley Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
