Rack pulls. still pull a ton of weight. My legs dont need deads and rack pulls wor your back as good if you do them right.

Where do you set the pins on your rack pulls? I've tried them and they're always either to high to feel like I'm working anything, or too low to feel any different than a deadlift.....

I do partial deads with 1 min rest between sets and it's brutal. You should try it. You set the bar at knee level height to take the legs mostly out of the equation and its a great back builder. I get my legs worked hard on leg day, don't need it on back day with full deadlifts.

Is rack pulls another name for partial deadlifts?

About 3 inchs below my knee. I still want it to feel like a dead lift just take some of my legs out of it to save my knees for leg day.

Yes I believe so. I just use the old school names I was thought.

My favourite back workout is:
Pull ups (weighted of I can easily do more than 5 reps per set)
Bent over rows
Deadlifts. I know you said "don't say deadlifts but bro, for me it isn't a back workout without deadlifts!! ;)

Rack pulls, pulldowns, bentover BB rows, and trap bar shrugs. But I agree that dead lifts (in my case with the trap bar) have to be apart of a back workout. Any variation has a benefit for us middle-aged lifters.

I'm also a big fan of reverse grip pulldowns. I've only recently added those as a staple in my back routine and they've proved to be an excellent addition for me.

I've never tried reverse grip, usually do wide grip behind the head, then to the chest, then narrow grip and single arm

I've been liking cable rows lately, with a medium wide overhand grip, just wider than shoulder width.

Push ups and pull ups both are my favorite back workouts.
Both are good for strength.
