Report: 11 of Patriots' game balls were underinflated The New England Patriots, coach Bill Belichick and the NFL are really going to have some questions to answer in the run-up to Super Bowl XLIX now.
ESPN reported (http://espn.go.com/boston/story/_/id/12202450/nfl-says-new-england-patriots-had-inflated-footballs-afc-championship-game) late Tuesday night the Patriots had 11 of their 12 allotted game footballs underinflated by 2 pounds per square inch for Sunday's AFC championship game rout of the Indianapolis Colts, citing "league sources either involved or familiar with the investigation."
NFL spokesman Michael Signora said in an email the league is "not commenting on the matter at this time."
Patriots spokesman Stacey James issued a statement reiterating the Patriots "have been in complete cooperation with the league and will continue to do so."
The Patriots are scheduled to arrive in Arizona on Monday for the Feb. 1 title tilt against the Seattle Seahawks.
The issue is whether the Patriots used footballs deflated below league requirements to get better grip in the rain during their 45-7 romp Sunday night.
Belichick said Monday the team would "cooperate fully with whatever the league wants us to; whatever questions they have for us, whatever they want us to do." He declined to comment Tuesday in a media teleconference when asked whether the NFL had contacted him.
A finding that the Patriots intentionally broke the rules could yield a strong response from the NFL, especially given the league has disciplined the team in the past.

Cooper, USA TODAY Sports Report: Pats' game balls underinflated In 2007, the league fined Belichick $500,000 and took away the team's first-round draft pick the following year after it was found the Patriots illegally videotaped the New York Jets' signals in what became known as the "Spygate" scandal.
NFL rules stipulate the ball must be inflated to 12½ to 13½ pounds. The referee – on Sunday, it was veteran Walt Anderson – "shall be the sole judge as to whether all balls offered for play comply with these specifications," the rules say.
"A pump is to be furnished by the home club, and the balls shall remain under the supervision of the Referee until they are delivered to the ball attendant just prior to the start of the game."
Each team makes 12 primary balls available for testing 2 hours, 15 minutes before the game. The home team also makes available 12 backup balls.

The refs checked the balls 2 hours before the game and okayed their inflation!

Also they were found to be deflated AT HALF TIME and were reinflated for the rest of the game.

No excuses!

Actually only 1 ball was deflated by 2 lbs. possibly just mistake not a big deal. The nfl said that the rest of the 10 balls were only under by about .6-.7 lbs. Which due to inflating balls in controlledd weather environment to bringing them into freezing temperatures is scientifically proven to happen. The fact that balls had minor deflation proves nothing. The deflated balls didn't cause the colts to score 7 points and The pats scored 28 points after balls were replaced at halftime. more than the first half. People just love to hate on a team that wins consistently and is one of the greatest franchises of all time. I say all this and I assure you I am not a pats fan. I respect them for all they have done and they have the best coach ever in football. One of top 3 qbs of all time. This was such a ridiculous news story fueled by media so they had something to talk about the two weeks before the superbowl.....Since andrew Luck who is a great qb in my opinion took over the colts they are 0-4 vs pats.. scores were 59-24 pats win, 43-22 pats win, 42-10 pats win, and latest 45-7.... Colts can't handle pats anymore. Don't hate on pats cause they win. I don't hate the pats I am not a fan but I respect them and all they have accomplished.

Seriously Wook, tell us what you really think of them! LMAO! I'm no fan of them either. They set their own reputation over the years so now they have to live with it. What really sucks is they have talent and resources more than many NFL teams and STILL they have to fuck around! I just look at BB and he annoys me!

See I am the opposite I love belichicks demeanor with the media. The media twists so much of what coaches and players say that why say anything. I' be like marshawn lynch and say fuck the media too. the just want gossip to fuel some kinf of fire so they have something to talk about.... and honestly the seahawks had no business being in the superbowl they got outplayed by the pack and if it wasn't for that bostick dumbass losing that onside kick and then that cornerback basically giving them 2 point conversion. super bowl should've been pack vs pats then I believe there would've been different champion. Packers were the better team. But the packers basically beat themselves in the last 2 minutes of that hawks game and lost.

serious pats hater lol. You must be a broncos/manning fan. haha just messing with ya. I know everyone but people in new england hate the pats. But honestly they are a great team, with probably the best coach ever, and I won'y say best like a lot of new englanders but top 5 qb of all time. I am personally a 49ers fan. So I still believe montana and young are higher on top qb list. and jerry rice is by far best receiver ever to play the game even though moss beat his record with the pats. Rice set that td record in 12 games then they went on strike. it took moss 16 games to barely beat the record.
