My son updated his computer and seems to like the new OS. Not sure if I wanna screw around with mine, though I do hate Windows 8...

I'm on the list to get it.

My only concern is that it will go to a subscription based system after a year, like the MS office suite.
edit: If MS goes subscription I'll be switching to googles, chrome OS.

Just upgraded............... make sure you Turn off ALL the reporting settings. Basically if you don't and choose express install Microsoft will be sent all web data you browse, including content and location.

Another thing I'm not happy with is windows 10 hides Internet Explorer and other software that competes with their new Edge browser.

It seems to be working just fine but I was running it on the insider program for some time. I did fresh install

It is suppose to go back to the old style with the taskbar and start menu.

Yep it does have the old style tools which I prefer.

Another interesting thing is the new Edge Browser doesn't support add-ons like java !?! does this mean no more updates every time the pc is turned on.

It's more secure not having those things. If you need them you will need to use a different browser. Firefox or chrome

If you want to be secure you want nothing running in the background

Agreed. Having java running is a huge security risk. It is extremely vulnerable to external exploits.

Some of the upgrades are going fine and some not so well. You will probably need to reinstall the old o/s and then try the upgrade again to get it free
