METFORMIN (Glucophage)

So I currently have a buddy who swears by this. For multiply reasons. He claims , quote " I can eat anything and not gain any fat what so ever"

So i been doing some research as i have a fair amount of access to a lot of this drug. Mainly use to treat type 2 diebites but a lot of brothers are claiming that this is a very benificial drug.

BENIFITS

Full muscles: Muscles will grow fuller when metformin is used with high carbohydrate diets.

Lack of fat storage: Metformin helps prevent fat from being deposited, so you get full benefits from carbohydrate heavy meals, without worrying to end up storing fat. This is why diabetics say they ‘lean out’ on this drug.

Insulin receptors: Metformin helps keep muscle cells sensitized for insulin that the body produces.

Appetite suppression: This drug will limit hunger, so it’s perfect for those doing a ketogenic diet. Furthermore, on re-feed days it makes a perfect addition to your carbohydrate heavy cheat day.

Pumps: Bodybuilders claim to get tremendous pumps when using metformin.

However, there are a fair amount of side effects you guys should be aware of.

SIDES

These are some of the common side effects I have come accross from researching the drug.
Nausea, Vomiting, Gas, Bloating, Diarrhea, Appetite Suprression

Half Life
The half life is listed as 4-6 hours. However, there are slow releasing extended tabs available. Bodybuilders should stick to the faster acting version as mentioned above.

Below is a copy and paste from a brother article with a bit more knowledge on this.

Dosing for Bodybuilders

Full muscles can be achieved if 500-1000 milligrams (mgs) are taken within 1 hour after a large carbohydrate meal. The more carbohydrates there are in the meal, the higher the dosage should be taken, never exceeding 1500 mgs at a time. Nevertheless, metformin can be taken with as many high carb meals as you wish.

Two important rules with this strategy, and close attention should be paid to the following:

The fast releasing version is recommended for this strategy.
At least 100 grams (g) of carbs must be taken for every 500 mgs of metformin. Otherwise hypoglycemic symptoms may occur.

I just skimmed quickly but didn't see a question so I'm just going to give my opinion. Metformin is fucking awesome for fat loss. I've taken it before and had GREAT results with no sides and will.definitely take it again. It is prescribed for off label use in the states for fat loss is obese people. I highly recommend people trying this. I believe you need take 800mg three times a day.

Yeah not all my WORDS, but put it together from various info found on the net and from other close brother personal experiences. They also say it is amazing for fat loss.

Just remember it can have its risks!

I have some real experience on it. First learned about it from Dr. Osborsn book. Convinced my doc to prescribe it. First stated taking it 5 months ago, continued until last month stopped due to some other illness and while working on bringing my body and lifestyle on track. Here is my 2cent:
- stated taking with breakfast, will give me straight diarrhea until late afternoon. did'n even go away after several weeks. Found out it doesn't really goes well with milk and milk for breakfast is a deal-breaker for me. So switched it with lunch.
- even with lunch will get diarrhea on and off, then started taking it toward the very end of lunch may be just before my last bite. That kinda settled things down and no diarrhea but will keep me hungry for rest of evening, sometimes had to take 2 dinner.
- will wake up in the middle of night, not really feeling hungry but super sugar/carb craving in my mouth not in stomach. I had to take some carb about 3/4 am or won't fall asleep.
- So, bottom line ended up taking more food but still lost some unwanted fat especially from the love handle area and it got all trimmed.
- I wasn't on any gear while taking mtfn..if you are on gear things might be different for you.
- I'd take it not targeting fat loss, fat loss is just the side effect of the AMPK effect it makes on cells and more importantly cell degeneration that brings Anti-Aging in the picture, what id does (technically 1. potential delay to the onset of degenerative disease 2. it increases the number of oxygen molecules released into a cell, which appears to boost robustness and longevity.) . Fat loss is jut the mere side effect of it, so that doesn't mean if you under 7-8% body fat you dont need to take metformin.
- I know couple docs who are ahead of the curve shared they put pretty much all of there patients on metformin regardless if they have diabetics or not.
- I started again this week while I'm on gear but still kinda same affect without diarrhea and later at night in the morning feel bittery taste in my mouth because it squeezes all he sugar out of my liver I guess.
- My suggestion would be taking it with breakfast in the morning if it suits you so it does all it has to do through out the day and not much trouble at night.
- FDA approved a study on metformin for anti again, study hasn't finished yet. Once they come up with positive outcome, it is gonna be next Viagra like pill in the market .
- It would also give me mild sensation and headache someday on back of my neck surfacing up to my back head. still amazing drug

Hope it helps people..

Actually you can get it prescribed from you doc if you want. I pay $2 for a months supply! Show the doc all study and talk about its AMPK and relate that to diabetics and heart disease and you are taking early steps to prevent it as it runs in your family..lol that was my argument.

found these notes from my homework almost 9 months ago: BTW if you blood glucose is too low , doc might not prescribe it, cause it definitely reduces it.

Our Apologies - CBS News 8 - San Diego, CA News Station - KFMB Channel 8 (http://www.cbs8.com/story/30765500/anti-aging-human-study-on-metformin-wins-fda-approval)
-potential delay to the onset of degenerative disease
-increases the number of oxygen molecules released into a cell, which appears to boost robustness and longevity.
-used for treatment for type 2 diabetes, the drug reduces the amount of glucose produced in the liver, but researchers believe that it may also have the ability to slow down the aging process in individual cells by increasing oxygen released into each cell.

Genotec and the Dictator have it...I'll be using this on my next cut to see how much of a difference it makes. I will agree it helps with pumps I tried it out soon as I got some just to see...fullness an hr after taking it was drastically different. If you look at my new avi that's the day I tried it out and I was extremely happy with the fullness hence me changing my avi lol.

Nice, so you did get some? I love it man. I usually have between 70-100g of carbs pre workout with 500mg of metformin and the pumps are insane!

I'm very interested in this now... I've read that Berberine hcl (a natural compound with no legal restrictions) is similar in action to metformin. However, I cannot find enough information on it as to whether it is anti-aging or if it is selective only in the muscle like metformin. I may have a local connection with some metformin tabs which is exciting. For now I am testing out this Berberine Hcl. I can't say I notice a huge difference. My hopes are higher for metformin.

Nothing to do with bodybuilding, but there has been some data collected which indicates that metformin may actually slow down aging.

Unfortunately, it doesn't settle with my stomach well and it gives me the runs. I'm wondering if I could possibly get over that side effect over time.

Late reply but it did the same for me until i got the XR version. 500mg xr with food for a couple weeks before bed. Then i started another 500mg xr with breakfast. DO NOT SPLIT THE TABS THO, they lose their "xr" if you do.

Its really not that expensive to add pre and intra workout. I feel if people can afford a pharm GDA, their periworkout should be on lock already, with 5g citrulline pre and intra.

I'm looking to ask for a script from my doc this coming week. I'm not a diabetic but it has some advantages to those who take it. I'm hoping if I present the fact that it can help prolong life and reduce issues like cholesterol and other things he will give it freely. If not I will just get it here.. Any suggestions on how to acquire a script would be appreciated.

the question is how much does it reduce igf1 levels and protein synthesis.

anyone have some data or knowledge bombs?

Trainhard1619
11-30-2017, 02:19 AM
Here is the problem, it lowers igf1 and test levels...I was running 1.5ius of gh at night and 25mcg's igf1 after training....had bloodwork done...my igf1 came in at 323ng/ml....I was running 300mg of test, my total test came in at 1935ng/dl and my free at 518.6 pg/ml..
I was happy with the numbers but figured I could ramp them up a bit, started taking 2iu's of gh, 50mcg's igf1 after training AND 500mg metformin twice a day...got bloodwork done after 8 weeks...igf1 dropped to 184, Total test to 1584 and free to 481....so metformin does have an effect on igf1, total and free test

Yes, I know weird about test levels but bloodwork don't lie...I can unserstand the igf1 levels being effected...I am taking berberine now instead of metformin...has the same insulin spike control without the igf1 lowering sides...so basically all the good of metformin without the sides

I started taking Metformin about a month ago and have not had any side effects. I was taking 500mg 2x a day but going to up it to 3x a day. I have lost about 5 pounds since being on it and really have not cut back on my diet. You get get it for free at the Meijer's pharmacy, if you have a prescription. From reading Dr Osborn's book, it has many other benefits.

Hello all, here’s my two cents on Metformin:
It works.
Im in the medical field and just finished my first BB show, I placed and now I’m qualified for nationals. I discovered this stuff and it’s use in BB about a month prior to my show. According to the research and my Dr, as well as some other Dr friends, there are no negatives. So I ran it. This stuff does have the effect of changing your gut biome, the bacteria in your gut, and during this process you will or can have some GI issues. Flatulence, diarrhea, etc. It intense! But, after about 7 days your gut adjust and you’re good to go.

I can tell you this, proof is in the results and I was fucking lean, I was not as strict as I should have been during my cut but you could not tell by looking at me. Now I’m post show prep, taking the holidays off and I’m still taking it. My waistline is stuck where it’s at, no belly to speak of and well I’m eating like crap right now!

Do your research, check out the videos, this is one of the oldest and most researched drugs out there. All these side effects are from non-compliant, obese, or geriatric pts populations, in the studies they quote. I’m not doubting personal experiences, just saying in the studies, it’s not gym rat bodybuilders on strict diets that they are using.

Dr.’s will prescribe this stuff pretty easily, it’s kind of like a vitamin. Google Ben greenfield fitness, Metformin and he has a list of positive health benefits to tell
your Dr about, then they will be more adept to prescribe it. Mine did, cost me $5 a month supply at 3 tabs a day.

Enjoy the pumps too! Carb loads are even more amazing now...

Metformin has little use in bodybuilding: "It works by decreasing glucose production (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gluconeogenesis) by the liver (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liver), by increasing the insulin sensitivity of body tissues,[6] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metformin#cite_note-AHFS2016-6) and by exerting an anorexiant effect, thereby reducing caloric intake." Also, hypoglycemia is impossible with metformin. Metformin - Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metformin)

It's only good if you want to lose weight (har har)

I disagree. I use it when bulking and running a fair amount of slin to increase insulin sensitivity. Metformin is in the arsenal of most guys who use slin.
