White: Conor’s next fight will be MMA, Mayweather match going nowhereby Kirik Jenness
02/25/2017
On May 6, 2016, a report surfaced in Rupert Murdoch’s The Sun (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/vault/ufc/report-mcgregor-negotiation-box-floyd-mayweather-jr) that then UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr, the greatest boxer of his generation, were about to announce they’d be boxing in Vegas. The source of the story of Mayweather’s team.
The pair have bickered ever since. After a lull, Mayweather revealed his price (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/news/mayweather-reveals-terms-for-mcgregor-fight-only-fight-im-interested-in), and conceded it was the one fight he wanted. UFC president Dana White offered the pair $25,000,000 each, plus a cut of the PPV. McGregor dismissed the offer and White dismissed the dismissal which was in turn dismissed (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/news/mayweather-strikes-back-at-white).
In the most recent unconfirmed report, The Irish Sun reported that McGregor and Mayweather had finally come to an agreement (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/news/irish-news-reports-that-mcgregor-and-mayweather-have-come-to-terms) on a multi-million dollar deal to box. However, McGregor’s contract with the UFC prohibits taking part in professional or for that matter amateur combat sports, so any boxing match would have to go through UFC president Dana White.
During a recent interview with TMZ, White said the match is going nowhere.
“I don’t know where we’re at, we’re nowhere,” said White. “We’re nowhere with it. … We’re nowhere.”
“I expect Conor’s next fight to be in the UFC, in mixed martial arts, and the winner of Khabib vs. Ferguson.”

White indicated he understood the lure for a boxing match with Mayweather.
[McGregor] could “make anywhere from 30-60 million bucks.”
Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson fight at UFC 209 on March 4 from Las Vegas, Nevada. UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley vs. Stephen Thompson serves as the main event.
