Anyone ever use an electric vac pump when filtering? If so anything special I need to know on how to do it. Do I need glass media bottles or will plastic work? Used some plastic ones and they cracked under to much vac from hand pump. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would go with glass media bottles. It also depends on the pump that you will be using as to what you'll need. You may need a regulator as well.

I'm going to be using a 1.5cfm pump.

Ive cracked every plastic bottle ive used . May be because of heat not really sure but i always used glass when i did my thing a few years ago

You will need glass without a doubt, and should look into a regulator so you can control the amount of suction.

I need to stop using needle filters. That pump thing sounds good

Haha at what $3-5 each that adds up for syringe filters. I would just take it to a priest and have him bless it... Could call it the holy oil.

temp is definetly an issue with the plastic media bottles. I'm trying to find a regulator at a reasonable cost. Any suggestions on where to get one?? How many HG of vac do you run with the glass media bottles???

I would think with quality glass it would not matter that much. I would think the regulator would more keep from damaging the filter.

Freek is right... Most PVDF, or Nylon filter can handle high vac pressures. The glass media bottle isn't going to be your limiting factor... The filter, and (most likely) bottle top filter component will be the weak points. Harbor Freight is incredibly cheap, and actually has some good products. I would say about 8-10 PSI for PVDF filters. (the bottle tops are plastic you're using right)?

yes plastic tops. using millpore 22um filters. I'm looking for specs on the filters but cant find any pertaining to amount of vac pressure they can withstand. I already have a vac pump.

You could just run it man. Just do a small batch. I doubt they wont hold up. It should be g2g.

Well, had a filter fail lastnight at about 20-25hg. So this time around I want to be able to set this thing up and go. Plus with the vac pump one can filter 6 different items at one time. Anyways a perfect vacum is 29.9hg depending on atmospheric pressure. In a perfect world that computes to just under 15psi. So as long as the filters can handle 15psi of vacum then I should be good to go.

Sounds good man, could you keep me informed?

Yes, I will def post up how this goes. Also max opperating temp for the millpore stericup filters is 45c or 110F.

A hand pressure pump with a glass media bottle should work fine. Just make sure you do not crack the filter by applying too much pressure.

How much have you filtered with a hand pump at one time??

bro u can filter as much as u can go it jus tholds vacuum bro. Its up to your filter how much shit it filters out or horomone cloggs it up not allowing anymore oil to go through thats all.

I'm talking about volume. I'm trying to filter a rather large amount of oil. Hand pump is fine. But vacum bleeds off as oil filters and vacum leakage. I'd like to set up filter system and just have to check it throughout filtering instead of sitting there watching it drip.. kind of like watching pain dry!! lol..

What are you talking about there should be no leaks bro when i do 500mls to a litre i just leave it? And sometimes i give it the odd pump but thats it.

Rmewrench

the vac pump is old.. you can watch the gauge drop vac so you have to sit and constantly pump it. How long does it take for 500ml to filter??

pimprn

LOL are you using the metal one? At the beginning u might have to sit there for 2 minutes pumping but once shes primes its great? It takes me about 30 mins.

You need to get yourself media bottles bro! Thats your problem cause those filters come with shitty receivers they have very small cracks u cant see then it leaks. It should not leak at all i remember i left it going overniht and it held the pressure. The glass media bottles will make your life ALOT easier.

Well sounds like media bottles and vac pump are the weakest link. The vac pump is an old plastic one. Will get glass media bottles and metal pump.

yah buddy if u dont like the metal one get the electric one but once u get those glass media bottles that will solve ur problem guarunteed tell me what the outcome is bro! And if u do get the electric one tell me what its like.

It's going to be a while before I update. Lost a LARGE amount of test/tren blend. WILL NEVER USE PLASTIC AGAIN...

how large ive done 250mls with hand pump. The vacuum should not bleed off.....unless theres a leak or a way for air to escape trust me. Ur getting hairline cracks in your filters receiver cause there cheap ass plastic you will see what i mean when u get that glass shit! Trust me bro i wouldnt steer u wrong.

I got tired just from waiting for the first drip.

what size membrane did you use?? I highly doubt it was .2 maybe the .45.... I used my electric vac pump for the first time the other day.. Did 1700ml in a few hours...

Glass media bottle is the only way to roll for sure.

Use a good pump from places like cp.com also look on places like ebay.
Use glass media bottles, if filtering over 500mls use CR filter @ .22um! from places like rls.

Agreed I don't think it was a .22 um.

Something you can do is a double filter process use a .45 then use a .2. So filter using a .45 then dump in a .2
This works fantastic with deca.
It cleans it up really nicely and the biggest thing is it takes less pressure off the pump than using .2 and spending 3 times the time. Check it out.

Yes. Glass media bottles woth disposable filter tops. Milipore .22 work great. I got a vaccum pump from harbour freight for $40. Its 1.2cfm. Perfect suction.
