Bitcoin cash

What is bitcoin cash and is it used the same as bitcoin. I use Coinbase and i noticed i have a BCH wallet. I kinda understand they paid me some extra money in December that corresponded with how much bitcoins i had at the time but my main question is this the same as BTC Wallet. If i buy something from a sponsor here i can send from that wallet? I didn't see a option to move it from BCH Wallet to BTC wallet.

I only use bitcoins about once or twice a year so i know very little about them
