How To Supercharge Your Immune System

The advent of Autumn brings seasonal change, but it also heralds the arrival of the cold and flu season.

Runny noses, stuffiness, chest congestion, coughing and sneezing, these are as much the signs of Fall as are the changing leaves and chilly nights.

Do something about all of this, Supercharge Your Immune System.

Harvard Health Publications reports that we still don't know entirely how the immune system works.

Many of the tried and true home remedies seem to work after a fashion, but medical science cannot explain why they do . . . there just isn't enough research completed for form a conclusion.

We do know enough about our immune system to know there is a link between immunity to illness and lifestyle, fitness and diet.

We also know that there are vitamins, minerals and natural supplements that will affect our wellness.

The information reported herein is not intended to supplant the advice of your family physician, but to help you keep your body more healthy, thus boost your immune system. It will also help put together the perfect muscle building diet.

Support the healthy bacteria in your body - Your body needs these bacteria to survive, so you have to provide a healthy climate for them to thrive.

A balanced pH is important. Your body is naturally alkaline, so you must increase your acidity to provide a more neutral pH. Fresh lemon juice in water, or used in cooking will help. Apple cider vinegar provides another acidity boost.

Get an appropriate amount of rest - Your body needs between six and ten hours sleep per day, depending upon your personal physical needs.

Sleep assists in balancing your hormone levels improving your moods, helping keep your weight in balance and relieving stress.

Eat a Protein-rich diet - This is your route to a healthy body and immune system. High carbohydrate diets, on the other hand, cause spikes in your blood sugar and stress your immune system.

"Water, water everywhere," rhymed the Ancient Mariner, "but not a drop to drink." - Water intake is important.

Every day you should drink in ounces, half of your bodyweight in pounds (150 pounds equals 75 ounces of water per day).

Cut back on or eliminate caffeine - Caffeine dehydrates the body, robbing it of vitamins and minerals. If you must have your morning coffee, add eight ounces of water to your daily intake, for every cup of coffee.

Avoid refined starches and sugars - Particularly white sugar, considered a drug by some nutritionists, because of its impact on the body. Artificial sweeteners, for the most part, are just as harmful, maybe even worse.

Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables - The nutrients you get from fresh produce help protect cells and bolster our immune system. Seaweed is a great source of minerals (your neighborhood sushi chef is a good guy).

Be active - Get out of the house and participate in outdoor activities, even if it's just walking. Your thyroid is also stimulated by the cool outside air.

Indulge yourself - The stress release of spending time with family and friends is marvelous. Also, enjoy your workout sessions, reveling in the release of energy and stress by strenuous exercise.

Be aware of your body signs that may indicate the onset of an illness; scratchy throat, cough, sniffles, runny eyes, all may indicate a rhinovirus has invaded your system. If that is the case, bundle up and take lots of fluids.

As we age, our immune system begins to falter, missing invasions of critical microbes that ultimately lead to illness. It is even more important for older people to protect their immunity by practicing this regimen outlined herein.
