There's alot more ways to do that in prison than you think. You can even buy protein powders, amino acids, and various other supplements in some prisons.

I watched that episode, its a privilege for them. They have to behave and earn it, and keep the right. So I would guess they act better than your average inmate honestly.. I know I would.

This is considered a privilege to them and one that is disciplined enough to take this seriously in fact may become a model inmate\citizen in return.

I worked out in the penitentiary .
There was a gym downriver that had a room set up .
That's where the 100lb plates are and a chalky residue all over .;)

Ah yes the good ol 100lb plates. Saves alot of time from adding 45's over and over again. Very few gyms carry them.
