Westboro Baptist Church Says It Will Picket Vigil For Connecticut School Shooting Victims

The Westboro Baptist Church (http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-57559468-93/hackers-target-westboro-baptist-church-after-newtown-threat/), the controversial group known for protesting outside funerals of slain U.S. service members, announced that it will picket a vigil for the victims of Friday's Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, the second-deadliest school shooting (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/15/connecticut-school-shooti_n_2306678.html?utm_hp_ref=crime) in American history.
Shirley Phelps-Roper, a spokesperson for the group and, like most members of the organization (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/10/us/10kansas.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0), a relative of the group's founder, Fred Phelps, announced on Twitter on Saturday (https://twitter.com/DearShirley/status/279953994124783618) the group's plan "to sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment."
It is unclear when the group plans to protest, although a tweet from Margie Phelps implied that it would be during a vigil that (https://twitter.com/MargieJPhelps/status/280107098094841856) will be attended by President Barack Obama on Sunday evening (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/16/obama-newtown-connecticut-sandy-hook-school-shooting_n_2310520.html).

Not surprisingly, the group's announcement was met with resistance online. A Change.org petition (https://www.change.org/petitions/prevent-the-westboro-baptist-church-from-protesting-sandy-hook-funerals#) asking for Connecticut officials to prevent the group from protesting has been launched, and users of the social news and link sharing site Reddit have been discussing ways to stage a counter-protest (http://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/14x1d6/the_westboro_baptist_church_says_they_will_be/).
A Facebook event that calls for "counter-activity" (https://www.facebook.com/events/303841059732404/permalink/304314799685030/?comment_id=304318506351326¬if_t=like) to "keep any hatred from touching" the grieving families has over 10,000 attendees, but because of a bomb threat (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/16/bomb-threat-newtown-church_n_2311882.html) in Newtown on Sunday, the event has been cancelled.
Anonymous, the loosely affiliated group of Internet "hacktivists," said that it had hacked the group's website (http://www.inquisitr.com/440545/anonymous-hacks-the-westboro-baptist-church-posts-all-their-personal-information/) and released personal information about the group's members, according to The Inquisitr.
