I have always used low reps for strength and high reps for more definition to fill the muscles with as much blood as possible. So I go with both as well.

I try to hit each muscle group twice a week. Once a week it's all heavy low reps, next time around it's high reps low weight. It's all about tricking the muscle not to get use to the routine.

Dc training! Read up on it, I'm about to try doing an adjusted version for higher reps, rest/pause sets to 30 or 50 reps instead of 15

I too like to mix it up during a workout. I do 1 heavy (8-12) rep exercise then another one with lighter weights and (15-20) reps. I have found that when I do that the muscle being worked gets engorged with blood thus resulting in really nice pumps. Plus i think it also shocks the muscle so you don't get stagnant.

This seems to be the most logical thing to do but how do you alternate?

I go with what creates the most protein synthesis which from research has proven to be 3 x10.

This is somewhat true, only thing your muscles need is a load, they will grow regardless. MUscle confusion is a marketing scheme in my opinion.
