For those of you who don't know who Eugen Sandow is, he is the man after whom the Mr. Olymia trophy is named. The very short of it is that he was a 19th century carnival strong-man turned physique model. His was a body built without drugs (which kind of makes the trophy ironic, no?). Check out this Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugen_Sandow ... Its a short read. The most interesting part of the wiki is the mention of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, author of the Sherlock Holmes stories, as a judge at "the world's first major bodybuilding competition" in 1901.
I posted this because of a really interesting PDF I found on a this blog: http://dandmlifting.weebly.com/uploa...l_training.pdf . It seems to be part biography and part treatise on fitness. I haven't read it all because of it's length, but I will shortly. There is some wonderfully ridiculous stuff in there. Like the claim that Sandow could do a 300lb, one-armed dumbbell snatch.. wtf?!?
I'd love to hear what you guys think of Sandow and of the PDF if anyone decides to read parts of it.
