Training and becoming "caught up in the numbers"

      Hey brothers,
So I wanted to get a few opinions on what they think about following a strict routine and carefully tracking progress. I will admit that I am super OCD and I keep track of everything while changing variables every so often when I feel like I plateau. I don't however see many other people practice this method of training and everyone I talk to usually don't follow a strict routine that they keep very close track of. Do most of you bros follow a certain training routine strictly and keep track of everything or rather use routines as a "template" and why?
