Smartwatch & Fitness Tracker Together

SIOUX FALLS, SD - From the Nike FuelBand to the Fitbit, fitness trackers are popular. Now a new device entering the crowded field this week claims to be different.

While Andrew Ness admits he doesn't work out as much as he should, he tries to work in a workout during his work day.

"They say one of the biggest things you can do with your fitness is to pay attention and do exercises during your average day," Ness said.

As the general manager of a Verizon Wireless store in Sioux Falls, Ness tried out a new fitness tracker before it's available to the public. The Samsung Gear Fit monitors how many steps he takes every day.

"This is a great way for me to keep track during the day to push me to hit some different fitness goals I have," Ness said.

While the pedometer function isn't new to fitness trackers, Gear Fit doubles as a smartwatch. It interacts with Samsung Galaxy phones.

"It allows you to take messages and notifications and phone calls--those types of things. You can ignore phone calls or quickly reference anything that's on your device," Ness said.

The fitness tracker also has many benefits outside of the office. It can measure your heart rate while you're exercising and also allows you to flip through your favorite workout songs.

"The Galaxy S5 and the Fit are both water-resistant, so sweating and South Dakota weather, those types of things, you don't necessarily have to worry about," Ness said.

But Ness says above everything he likes the fact that the device helps streamline and simplify his life.

"When you are running or riding your bike or something like that, it allows you to quickly reference your device instead of trying to pull it out of your pocket or off your arm band, anything like that," Ness said.

Gear Fits will be available for customers April 11. They cost $200.
