      How clean is "clean" eating?

Just a little survey to see who out there considers themselves to be "eating clean."

I'm starting a new cycle this weekend, and working out my diet. Last time around I got a little sloppy with what I was eating, and I also used protein shakes more than I want to going forward. So, I'm just curious as I put together my diet....

Do you guys consider full fat milk, cheese, and stuff like that to be ok on a "clean" bulk? It's whole food, not processed (if you get the good stuff), and loaded with calories and pretty good macros. What about pasta? That used to be considered good, until the Paleo people started talking about not eating flour....

Or, do you think that kind of stuff is bad regardless??

Just curious what other guys do....trying to fill out my calories, and enjoy what I'm eating, but aware that I'm prone to leaning too far on what I like!

It really depends on your goals? If you are trying to get lean and shredded to the bone then it's going to be super strict. If you are clean bulking then you have a lot more wiggle room. What are you trying to do?

Clean bulk for now, Kubes. Last cycle I started at 16% bf and finished at 16% bf. Spent the first three months of the year getting myself down to about 12.5% before starting up my next round. It's another bulk, but I don't want to lose the progress I made in leaning out.

Mostly, though, just throwing it out there to see where everybody ends up in their own diets. You always hear about "clean" vs. "dirty." Just curious whether people think "dirty" = McDonalds and pizza every day. Or whether high quality things like milk and cheese fell into "dirty" as well! I know a lot of the old school guys back in the day relied on milk a lot....

I never eat dirty. I eat clean year round. Only difference with a bulk is I eat more of what I am already eating

I eat clean as well. I find the gains to be of a much higher quality on a cleaner diet. I allow two cheat meals a week and eat atleast six meals a day, at the moment two are liquid meals due to my schedule.

I like it this way. The gains might be slower but they are better quality and you don't gave to go diet all that fat off after you bulk

When theres a choice between processed and not then go not. I dont consider Milk or cheese or natural greek yogurt dirty, but white pasta seems stupid to have when brown rice about same ingredient but soo much better??? And since getting more of my fats from good fats and carbs from low GI carbs i can get rid of extra weight easier and feel better too... Just my thoughts hope it answers your question

Like fair said above, low GI carbs is the whole point of a clean diet. Eating 'dirty' is eating foods that are high on the glycemic index. What this means is that your body has to spike insulin to compensate for the high level of simple sugars. Insulin also has many other affects on the body that can be negative if spiked at the wrong times throughout the day. The only time I consume simple sugars is post workout - when I want my body to spike insulin to shuttle my protein quickly to my muscles.

These high GI food diets are why many so Americans are diabetic.

Thanks for the replies guys. No simple sugars here except fruit at breakfast and post workout. I do include brown rice and whole wheat pasta, but nothing with white flour.

I'm experimenting with more eggs, cheese and milk. I love those things, so I think that's why they feel dirty! Lol.

I am wondering why sometimes it seems like I can get leaner when not really being very strict than other times or sometimes it seems like I can lean out without cardio? Is this my metabolism? The gear? stress? Its weird
