      Dieting and BLOOD sugar stabilization.

Hey brothers, just thought I would share some info that I have been learning through my nutrition walk that I feel could really help fine tune a lot about dieting and reaching goals. Please feel free to add on and/or correct anything im going to share.

I get a lot of customers that walk into my store and are looking for that magic weight loss pill to loose weight and or gain weight. And this is what I explain to them. Ill be going into more detail on here. Try and stay with me on this lol.

      -Blood Sugar-
      your body's fuel source.

Blood sugar is sugar in the form of Glucose within the blood stream. The body must maintain stable blood sugar because Glucose fuels our nervous system. Glucose creates the bulk of our body's energy source “ATP” Adenosine triphosphate.ATP fuels every movement, every heartbeat, and every breath you take. This is why there is so much attention payed to a baby's first year of life, their blood sugar levels equal life. So ill explain the importance of the stability of blood sugar with dieting.

Your body loves balance. Your pancreas releases two important hormones into the blood stream to keep this balance of glucose in the body, insulin and glucagon. When the body is balanced your in whats called a state of homeostasis. While in this state your body naturally burns body fat and builds muscle very very well. When an unbalance occurs your body stores fat and burns muscle. Now its very easy to keep an imbalance in the body if you are eating without the right type of goals. For example: lets say your on a “diet” and you have limited the amount of food your taking in everyday (most people will eat almost nothing and/or skip meals). If you do this its very easy to become imbalanced and blood sugar drop too low. When that happens your pancreas will release glucagon into the blood stream. Glucagon will drain your glucose storage's, that your body needs for fuel, and then because your body still needs fuel to operate properly it burns up your amino acids(parts of your muscle) to use as energy. All this just to increase blood sugar levels. So eating very balanced, frequent meals with good complex carbs is suggested. Also your body is really good at telling you when your blood sugar levels are low, for example: have you ever skipped a meal or just been hungry and you feel irritated or even a little shaky? That is your body telling you that your blood sugar is low. You will typically crave your favorite kind of carb and that can get you into trouble if your not careful. It will take about 20 min for your body to register that your full and by that time you have consumed too much of that food. For one your hungry and you craved it, and two its usually a favorite so you will continue eating more than the body actually needs, this will have sent you into another blood sugar imbalance, unfortunately your body will store most of what you ate as fat. So on the other side of the table eating to much food or fast carbs/sugars will tell your pancreas to release insulin into the blood stream. The insulin will tell the body to store all of its nutrients in parts of the body, typically as fat, to help stop pushing too much sugar into the blood stream. The only good time to spike glucose levels is following exercise because your body just used a lot of your glucose storage's to meet the energy demand and they need to be refilled. Its part of the energy cycle the body uses. You need to have a very good balance of protein, fats, and carbs. Your carbs need to be a tiny bit of fast and then mostly complex, the protein and fats will help slow the process of the glucose entering the blood stream. Now when we were baby's we ate every three hours because of blood sugar stabilization. That should have never changed. If its the most important thing for health and growth when we were baby's then why would that ever change? Our body's still operate exactly the same. We adapted to this three meal days “breakfast, lunch, and dinner” because the priority's in life became greater as we got older. And guess what there is a major health concern in America today because of it.

So the most important thing you could take from this is staying on top of blood glucose levels and keeping the body in homeostasis. It is too me the foundation to healthy dieting and nutrition. Now sure you can restrict your food intake and loose a lot of weight or over eat and get gains but you will always return to the way you were before you started. Either loosing the gains or gaining all that unwanted weight right back. Its a quick unhealthy fix that wont last. Your body has a natural set point and it will always try to return to that. But if you keep your body in homeostasis you can actually manipulate your metabolism and body's set point and keep it in the long run.

If there are any questions ill try and answer them the best I can. I am still always learning and stay very open to correction. But I hope this info can be useful to anyone who wants to diet and or gain. It will really fine tune every part of your nutrition needs for the body as far as composition goes and timing of foods.
