Grass Fed Beef
Just ordered my first 1/4 cow from a local farm. All pastured raised, all organic, no hormones, no antibiotics! I normally eat all natural grass fed beef but I buy it at the market. This is my first time buying it directly from the farm! I'm super excited...lol They also sell pork and chickens. I'll probably order some of their chicken as well.
It won't be ready for a few more weeks but I'll post some food porn when I have it!!

Hey Frank The Tank, did you save money buying it that way? I'm interested in trying to buy it that way and I was curious about the cost of the meat since I will have to store it and all that.

It cost me $810 that includes butchering. Some farms have an additional charge for having it butchered. 1/4 cow is around 100lbs of beef. So around $8 per pound, which is close to half the price you'd pay in the grocery store.
They say that a 5 cubic foot freezer is about the amount of freezer space you'd need. You can probably find cheaper beef locally raised but you have to check the farm out. You really want to stay away from any farms that use corn as the main source for their feed.

Here's a basic breakdown that you'd get from 1/4 cow.

What's the fat content of the ground beef? I would assume quite a bit leaner than store bought.

Yeah I'm not sure about that.... I follow the Paleo diet so fat is allowed

Wow....so glad I get a whole cow for free...parent have about 20 head and dad butchers himself....way better than supermarket meat even the grass fed....it does sit in the back of a truck or cooler for who knows how long.....you get it fresh and straight to freezer....I even season it while I'm packaging it up for the freezer
