Elevated cholesterol is a reflection of thyroid health

Clinical Thyroidology Vol 5, Issue 12: The thyroid hormones control the body’s metabolism and can affect cholesterol levels. There are several types of cholesterol, including LDL-cholesterol (bad cholesterol, associated with heart disease) and HDL-cholesterol (good cholesterol, thought to protect against heart disease). When thyroid hormone levels are low and TSH levels are increased (hypothyroidism), cholesterol levels are increased.
When thyroid function is low, cholesterol will rise. Thyroid hormone along with other vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A are needed for the synthesis of cholesterol into pregnenolone and other protective steroidal hormones.
The higher the thyroid function the more cholesterol the body is consuming. Thyroid also supports the ability to produce cholesterol as well as to rid the body of the cholesterol it doesn’t need. When thyroid hormones are low, the body doesn’t break down and remove LDL cholesterol allowing LDL cholesterol to build up in the blood.
A study in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism (JCEM) found that high TSH levels alone can directly raise cholesterol levels, even if thyroid hormone levels aren’t high.
Hyperthyroidism had the opposite effect.

I have read the work Dr. Ray Peat. The thyroid cholesterol connection is well established but unfortunately today most doctors just prescribe
a statin for high cholesterol instead of thoroughly checking TSH, free T3, free T4. A better question for those on this forum is should
we be concerned about our thyroid knowing that many of the AAS's elevate cholesterol?

Kind of new to him. Haven’t had the time to dive in.
But as for AS and cholesterol remember these things...
You mess with the HP axis, you mess with all of it!
Most people that use AS either have some sort of thyroid issue to begin with or develop one. Some guys rarely have lipid issues and others have horrible lipid issues off low doses.
Cholesterol is mainly synthesised in liver and the rate-limiting step is the reduction of 3-hydroxy-3methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) to mevalonate, a reaction catalysed by HMG-CoA reductase (HMGCR). There is a comprehensive body of evidence documenting that anabolic-androgenic steroids are associated with deleterious alterations of lipid profile. Why?
......via an increase of the HMGCR expression.
