I have a rare blood disorder. My lowest hemoglobin level was below 5. That was hell. Canada and the US may have different values they use. But it sounds like yours is 18. I’d have to google that. I get an IV medicine every 2 weeks and mine stays around 14-15 now. I’d imagine pumping thick blood like that would without a doubt stress your system out.

The US uses grams per deciliter. Canada uses grams per liter.
      so 180 = 18 for the US.

I have always had to donate but how long does it take for them to return to a normal number without donating?

I got my HGB down to 166/16.6, but my RBC/HCT were still quite high so I donated again the other day and I feel WAY WAY better now and I'm hoping that donating every 56 days will keep me feeling great.

I have done it myself a few times. I just use a 23g without a plunger in the ol bathtub. I now just show up at the mobile red cross bus and they do it and dump it.
