A Recipe for Healthy Turkey Burgers

A Recipe for Healthy Turkey Burgers

Turkey burgers are a healthy alternative to beef burgers. The problem is that most fast food turkey burgers are high in calories, fat and sodium, because they are cooked with oil. Done right, you can make healthy turkey burgers at home with the right ingredients and proper cooking technique. This recipe creates a healthy turkey burger loaded with flavor to satisfy your palette, along with carbs, fat and protein to fuel you through your next workout.

      Turkey Burger Recipe

      Ingredients

      • 20 oz. extra-lean ground turkey
      • Mrs. Dash salt-free seasoning
      • 1/2 cup of chopped red onions
      • 5 slices of 2% American cheese
      • 1 cup of raw spinach
      • 1 cup of portobello mushroom halves
      • 2 tbsp. light vinaigrette dressing
      • 5 whole wheat hamburger buns

      Directions

      1. Mix 1/2 cup of chopped onions with ground turkey.
      2. Form five 4-ounce patties with the ground turkey/onion mixture.
      3. Sprinkle seasoning.
      4. Set two skillets on the stove and set heat at medium to medium high.
      5. Spray one skillet with nonstick cooking spray and drizzle 2 tbsp of light vinaigrette dressing on the other.
      6. Place patties on the cooking spray skillet and cook to preferred temperature.
      7. Meanwhile, place mushrooms in the skillet with dressing and stir occasionally until they are cooked to preference.
      8. Once you flip the patties, top each with a slice of cheese.
      9. When fully cooked, place each patty on a bun and top with even amounts of mushrooms and spinach.
