      Humalog and humulin explained

      Was writing this out for a brother on here to help explain to him how to use insulin and figured I’d share it because I feel it can help explain and shed insight on how to utilize insulin safely

      Humalog is the fastest acting. It’s onset is within 15 minutes after pinning and peak for 30-90 minutes with a duration of 3-5 hours.

      Humulin R is still considered a fast acting but it’s onset is within 30-90 minutes after pinning with a peak of 2-4 hours and a duration of 6-8 hours.

      So basically what you do is time everything around when the insulin will have its onset utilize its peak and be conscious of how long the duration is because for the duration you can go hypo if not careful. However I’ve found by following certain guidelines you can avoid going hypo and just enjoy the benefits of insulin. Now as you know, insulin can be extremely dangerous; but in my opinion that’s only if you don’t understand onset/peak/duration timing or if you’re underprepared with emergency carb sources.

      So first and foremost you would start will a small dosage so I would suggest 5-6ius. And add 1iu once you feel comfortable using that until you reach 10-12ius. Usually 10-12ius is more then anyone will usually need but some venture to 15ius or even 20ius. However those would be more advanced insulin users who have mastered how to use it.

      For protocols what you want to do is make sure you have enough carbs to cover the amount of ius being used so you do not go hypo. 10g of carbs per 1iu is the baseline. However some use less and others use more, that’s dependent upon how your body responds to insulin when being used. For example I can use ~7g per 1iu of insulin and not go hypo. Other may need 12g per 1iu.

      Lastly remember to only use for 3-4 weeks due to desensitizing and then take off the same time on to bring insulin sensitivity back. During the time off be sure to take berberine 3-4x daily and stack it with r-ala and turmeric. Take 20-30 minutes prior to meals with carbs.

      Ok now let’s get into how to use humalog and humulin R. However first it’s important to always have and do these things when running insulin. First is set a timer immediately after pinning insulin so you can tell when the onset is beginning, when it should be peaking and how long it’s active until the duration has expired. Secondly always have extra carb sources; like - Powerade or Gatorade, glucose tabs, or candy (sour patch kids or whatever is just carbs/sugars). These will be your lifeline if you happen to feel you’re going hypo. Also use the guideline of 10g carbs per 1iu of insulin used (so 5ius = 50g carbs). As you get comfortable using insulin you can up the dosage by 1-2ius until you reach 10-12ius.

      Protocol for Humalog -
      *Pin 5-6ius and then drink a shake within first 10 minutes of administering - 2 scoops whey isolate protein (50g protein) & 1 scoop Karbolyn (50g carbs)

      *have intra workout shake made comprised of: 1/2 Powerade, 1-2 scoops EAA’s & 1 scoop glutamine (roughly 30g carbs). Sip throughout entire workout

      *Go to the gym to lift

      *Post workout meal - chicken, jasmine rice & 1 serving of fruit of choice

      *Can sip a drink of EAA’s & glutamine between meals

      *2 hours after post workout meal - have another meal of protein, carbs & this time some fats. After this meal humalog duration should be done and you’re in the clear


      Protocol for humulin R -
      *Pin 5-6ius of humulin R then wait about 15-20 minutes to have first meal. Something like lean protein source blend of high and low glycemic carbs & some fats (5-10g)

      *Wait about 1.5 hours after and have pre workout shake - 2 scoops whey isolate protein & 1 scoop karbolyn

      *have intra workout shake made comprised of: 1/2 Powerade, 1-2 scoops EAA’s & 1 scoop glutamine (roughly 30g carbs). Sip throughout entire workout

      *Go to the gym to lift

      *Post workout meal - chicken, jasmine rice & 1 serving of fruit of choice

      *Can sip a drink of EAA’s & glutamine between meals

      *2 hours after post workout meal - have another meal of protein & carbs (rice or potato) & add some vegetables

      *2 hours after last meal - have another meal of protein, carbs & this time some fats (5-10g)

      *within the next hour or so the humulin R duration should be over
