I've always pinned insulin immediately after my workout.
Insulin is the carrier for things that you want to to get into the muscle cells. ISO whey protein, L-glutamin, creatine, etc..
Here's the formula I've used...
50-60g karbolyn
10g L-glutamin
10g creatine
Amino acid powder
Think of insulin as a pickup truck, and the supplements are loaded up in the bed of the truck which drives supplies into the muscle cells.
