Ok. So you took my meaning to be only concerned with stoppers but not with filtration or solution contact with plastic?

Not that there are endless threads on filtration, a half dozen on the first page yet no threads on stoppers anywhere in the close proximity.
Perhaps I meant exactly what I wrote. Perhaps you didn’t see my addition to other filter threads admonishing the use of plastic, ever, and suggesting the use all glass set ups?
Of course if you are using a membrane other than cellulose, you are exposing your solutions to some form of plastic.
As far as stoppers, most butyl rubber stoppers are “silicone treated” so if silicone is bad, it’s a shame you can’t really avoid it.

Your supposition as to my experience is way off. We don’t even have a plastic “funnel” anywhere in our lab and the only contact with plastic is the Whatman Polycap filters.

If I State something that could be dangerous, by all means inform the mods and have it pulled. But if you simply disagree with my comments or methods, understand that people seeking knowledge on home brewing benefit from multiple views and can make their own decisions about what makes sense. Otherwise it’s just one or two guys proliferating their processes and in some cases it ends up being the uniformed leading the blind.

I'm not trying to be mean to you or anything. It's just that people are too lazy to do their own research and believe everything we write on the forums and take it literally and/or interpret things their own way.
I don't recommend people using glass buchner filtering setups because of many reasons, not going in to that again.
I've tried every setup there is. Tried most plastic filters etc.
I'd easily get plastic filters if they were available to me.

Way to many things can go wrong with the glass buchner setup, specially if you don't have experience.
Plastic filters are cheap, easy to use, you don't have to buy a bunch of things to sterilize them, don't have to spend a day sterilizing and drying lab stuff etc.

Plastic "funnels" aren't used in labs because it's a LAB! First of all it's expensive compared to glass and ceramic buchner funnels. A real lab usually have equipment to sterilize them properly and personnel that is trained to do it.
You can't compare a lab to a regular bro's basement.
Your experience and advice when it comes to homebrewing (which 99% of the guys here are doing) is not good at all.
You're an expert so I don't have to give you any advice.

But for all you other guys here is the best advice I can give you:
Just keep it simple and stop overcomplicating things. Do what's been proven to work and what every one else does.

Fair enough. I would say I would agree with you on many things like glass set ups, mostly because “bro’s” are clueless as to how to get and remain aseptic.
I expect a very small percentage have laminar flowbenches.
It is dumb luck that save most of us. I say “us” because I used to convert finaplex I’m my kitchen even after working literally decades in a proper lab. (Working in those labs had nothing to do with gear then.)
I am not a home brewer, you are correct. But I WAS. I just had the benefit of already owning a very nice home lab setup for other aseptic work.
Over the years I have ridiculously expanded and built a facility that far exceeds my needs, with outstanding equipment purchased at prices affordable to home brewers.
This is precisely where I can help, even though I am not a “home brewer”.
Also, as my lab is in a country where steroids are not regulated, I don’t have the worry of the onerous and meddling USG breathing down my neck. This affords me the capability of being completely open and candid. Guys on the other forum seems to think this is braggadocio but it’s just me being me. Being candid and open.

I don’t think anything is “overkill”. If you can do it and afford it, why not? The homebrewer saves soooo much money doing this that spending some of those savings on investing in killer equipment seems a no brainer to me.

Heres an example for those that spend time scouring the internet for deals:

Laminar Flow Hood - Used Liberty Brand - Good Condition | eBay

I have a higher end model of this same bench. Works great but new filters are $1k. Even if you had to drive to pick it up AND replace filters, it’s still a bargain.

You are obviously an experienced brewer. I didn’t start with 3 liter batches so I think I still can make helpful contributions. Mostly hoping to spare some grief for people. That’s what I mentioned in my “introduction” post.
