Who intentionally overdoses their gear?

I’m considering intentionally overdosing my gear 10-15%. Thoughts?

My reason is that you never really know the purity of your raws and overdosing could help combat/circumvent this issue.

Again, what are you all’s thoughts?

From what I've read it's a fairly common practice.

On average I'd say around 10% overdose is what I've heard guys talk about doing the most.

If I can ever find the filtration system I need I plan on doing at least 10%

ive found that the Whatman CR nylon 0.22 ZapCaps work great! I do pre-filter through a 0.45 membrane but you don’t need to. The .22 zapcap will work just fine for you. Be sure to use a sterilized media bottles (I use Pyrex 125ml GL45 bottles). Then use a sterile syringe and transfer to your sterile vials and cap.

Mine are all dosed 10% over..when you make the prop over dosed you risk the chance of pip..and alot of it. I still overdose those also but it's a coin toss as to it being tolerated.

Yep. I've got an assortment of the pyrex measuring cups, pump, magnetic heat plate with temp sensor clamp and different sizes of magnetic stirrers, miglyol, ba, bb, an assortment of raws

Just missing the actual filtration system.

I originally wanted the autofil due to good reviews but for some reason finding the system with anything but the pes filters is very difficult for some reason.

I have been apprehensive as of lately cuz I saw a discussion in bop where a few different guys were talking about they believed that the solvents were melting even the nylon and pvfd causing a certain amount of liquified plastic to get dissolved into the finished oil.

Not sure if this is at all true or if its even an issue if it is really happening.

I wish I could tag korsaire, hnausa, or any of the other guys that are much more experienced about brewing.

yes, I believe I was part of that conversation. I’ve found that the reservoir of the Whatman CR filters are made with regenerated cellulose, or at least partially RC, which is comparable with the chems we use, or at least this is what I’ve read/researched.

After 10 filtrations, using 10 of these filters, I have noticed no discoloration of the reservoir and the nylon membrane is still entact.

Im probably the most paranoid person out there and I feel comfortable using these filters.

Yep - everyone is spo-on with their replies. I overdosed gear at approximately 5% - usually unnecessarily so. Some compounds are tricky - overdosing propionate and a few others can make for slightly more painful injections for some clients. Regardless, for the minimal amount of time and money it cost, I found it to be worth it and it made me feel like I was doing the right thing in the crazy homebrew world!
