Thread: Syringe filter bursting

I'm planning on building the syringe filter stand that yellow ninja came up with a posted the how to thread.

As I'm buying the materials I'm sitting here thinking about using it and realize that since i wont be pushing the oil through the syringe filter manually with my own hand pressure. a

wont be able to actually feel any difference in how the oil passes through the syringe filter. it is conceivable that after I set the weight on top of the stand and let it start dripping into the sealed sterile vial it could burst and I won't even know it.

I've never used syringe filters before so maybe this is a pointless question but how hard is it to find out if a syringe filter has burst, allowing unfiltered oil to pass through?

I use a 10lb weight and have filtered up 100ml with 1 whatman filter and haven't had one burst yet. I dont know about using cheaper filters though. I'm usually sitting at my desk watching it working on things and under normal operation it goes about a few drops a second so if it were to burst it would probably come out as a stream

Yeah, I was thinking the samething as far it coming out as a stream.
