      Butyl stoppers ba silicone stoppers

      Butyl rubber vs silicone stoppers

Which do you guys use and why? Pros and cons? I’ve read mixed reviews; just trying to get more “consensus.”

“Silicone treated” butyl stoppers are an industry standard. I started using silicone because of Mig840, guaiacol, etc.
Now I don’t use these solvents/carriers so I am going back to butyl. Mexicans seem to be more worried about boxes and holograms that the increased safety and value of silicone is lost on them. At 4x the cost, I don’t see the need for the added expense.
For home brewing I would use 100% silicone. They are easily baked or autoclave for added safety.
