      Torn Labrum

Anybody ever had this?? My shoulder has been giving me grief the last couple of months. Had to pull out of a big event I'd been training for this weekend. Went to the doc today....

Torn labrum, tendonosis in the infraspinatus and supraspinatus, fluid in the bicep tendon, and inflamed bursa.

Starting with just rehab, but doc also recommended platelet rich plasma treatment (which sounds weird).........any of you guys have something similar and jump straight to surgery?? Labrum isn't torn through, just frayed.

Mine is torn..has been for about 2 years..most people have small tears and don't even know it. It's mostly about the amount of pain. The body is good at telling you if something should be done of not. Usually a labrum you will still have full range of motion u like a rotator cuff. I personally just found ways to work around it. Depends what you goals are as well.

Have you tried a prescription anti inflammatory? Of a cortisone shot for the inflammation?

The pain is apparently from all the tendinitis because everything's been working so hard to hold the shoulder together since the labrum isn't in tact. Staying away from cortisone.....sounds like the rehab ought to do the trick......ice and ibuprofen can't hurt

My doctor recommend a cortisone shot which I took and doing band exercises for rehab, seems to be improvement. Also he recommend in the future using the bands to warm up before lifts.

I have had 2 surgeries on my right shoulder for a torn labrum. If you can get away without the surgery then I would do that. The recovery took me almost 3 years to be able to shoulder press 30 lb dumbells again. It was horrible. The worst part would be when my arm would just decide it was done I would loose all strength and power. That is actually the reason why I started to use aas. I wanted to recover faster and it sure did do the trick. Too bad I waited so long to do it.

Don't push yourself too hard too fast. Thats what I did after the first surgery and re-tore it and needed the 2nd surgery. Mine was pretty bad though. I couldn't lift my arm above my waist going to the front or the side, so really there was no choice but the surgery... I probably didn't help it much by going and competing in the world chamionship after knowing that it was torn..

Good luck to you. If you need suggestions on stretches or strength exercises for it I can probably dig up my old workouts from PT.

Thanks brother...that sounds rough. Mine isn't torn through, just frayed. Going the rehab route first and probably spend the rest of this year trying to get it back to normal.

Funny you mention it though.....I was doing an event Friday night and the same thing happened to me. I completely lost power in it. Didn't even hurt that much but just wouldn't work. Freaked me out.
