Ive had my issues with herniated discs. I found deca(prefer NPP)helped me quite abit actually. Its puts water in the joints, helps heal cartilage. Your discs are like joints in your spine. I felt enough relief to train but stopped bent over barbell rows, squats, etc. Hack squats are great, keeps back supported whole time.
Keep in mind everyone is different, might not help you. But I would give it shot. I used it straight for 2 yrs and my MRI showed healing of the disc. Best thing you can do is keep active cause being still will weaken your muscles, which support your back, and will be even more susceptible to injuries.
Whatever you do, surgery should be last option. These Dr.s make a lot on them. Its can take months to heal a disc, but I have done it.

Funny i find myself back on this thread, i was about to post my own
Exactly one day after i postd my reply here i woke up with some bad neck/back pain. Over the next week i saw a physio twice that helped with muscular pain. But thats when i realised i had radiating pain and numbness going down my arm. Not a fkn good sign for nerves
So a few more days an and MRI later i basically have the same tbing as you. My main issue is at the c6-7 though with the protrusion and impingement on exiting right nerve. I also have. A few problems at other levels but not as bad and also have the degeneration, which is basically arthritis in the spine. But im not too worried about the arthritis yet as i believe most of us have it ti some degree and plus it isn't the one causing issues its the fkn exiting nerve thats being hit by the bulging disc thats my main issue.
Another similar thing is i think its from an old car accident too. Apparently you can carry this injury for ages and then just suddenly develop pain and symptoms.
So i saw a neurosurgeon and he basically said its pretty bad and being young hed want to wait it out to see if it heals but if it gets too painful or doesn't get better in 2 months then i need surgery. He gave me a referral for a cortisone injection and i was off.
Right now i feel disabled. My tris twitch. Forearms feel week. Grip is weekend. Cant sleep on my right side. Alot of movements i cant do. Ive been on alot of pain meds to deal with it though ive reduced these the last 2 days.
So i had the cortisone injection over a week ago now. At first i was like yeh! Steroids! Little do you know fuckers.... But when i was injected though the side of the neck and told any movement can cause nerve damage... It basically wasn't too fun having to not move while you can feel a 10cm pin go into your neck, from the front, blood fkn dripping down the side and i cant fkn move!
Anyway the cortisone injection was also injected with some local anaesthetic so i felt some immediate relief. And i was told it takes about a week to really feel the benefit of cortisone.
So my verdict on the cortisone? Worth it. But both what its sold to be. I was expectingall pain to go like it does with others. But no, i had about a 60-70% reduction in pain. When its painful its stikl fkn painful. But it seems to have worked on a few of the areas that caused pain but not all. Im going to probably get another shot in a week and hopefully that gets most of the pain under control. But like i mentioned before, its not healing it , ita masking it, with the hope the body naturally puts it back into place.
Sorry bro i don't mean to hijack your thread, but i figured since we both have a similar injury we could probably use the same advice on here and save others having to reply to 2 threads?
At the moment, i its stopped me from training. I know i can't perform 80% of the movements required and its fkn depressing. I was supposed to be buying my cycle and starting by now but i fi d myself eating shit, not training and paying drs bills. Not to mention not working properly..
Going to read more into deca , sounds promising

But I'm sure uncle Google can answer those questions for you.

Ahahah man at least they put you to sleep.
Its just a really annoying injury location. Unlike the lower back its not easy to just strengthen the surrounding muscles. There are mucles there in the neck but you can only strength hen them so mu h before you probably cause another injury.
I think if this thing doesn't get any better over the next few months ill start seriously considering surgery. Only thing that scares me about surgery is theres a chance of permanent strength loss... Amd a month off work when ive just started a new job

Thanks
