      Rotator Cuff surgery

I don't want a pill problem, but I have been in shoulder pain for over 2 years. First it was tendonitis for 6 months, next was a surface tear on one of the tendons and ffs, now this. I can't believe the pain that I'm in. No way, do I want to feel what I'm feeling now unless I have surgery. This sucks. I'm in so much pain, I can't do half the exercises and I did do physical therapy for a year before I started seeking help. And when I did seek help, this happened AFTER they injected my shoulder. I kind of think that this is related to the shot. I wonder if the tendon was more torn that originally thought and then when I slipped and caught myself, I tore it more. Hell, I never did really push myself with more weight than I could and injured myself. I've always been pretty good, but hell, it happens. I get it. I'm going to talk to the doc tomorrow and most likely see to get this done. I know I'm going to lose a lot, if not all, but if there's a chance that I could come out on top, I'm always going to take that chance.
Good luck dude! Surgery is the only way to go if you’re in that much pain. Because after rehab, your pain will be gone and you’ll be back to normal. Just put in the hard work!

Oh, and if they don’t give you one after surgery, get the ice machine with shoulder straps. Not sure the exact name. It pumps ice cold water continuously through the straps and keeps the shoulder amazingly iced down. Thing is a life saver.

My injury was work related,so workmen’s Comp took care of everything. Doctor prescribe norco for about 7 days worth ,but Comp only authorized 4 days worth. I use I ibuprofen as well to help with the pain management. On my other shoulder I also got the cortisone shot ,work for a few days . I slept on the shoulder and woke up with even worse pain ,so maybe the shot did mask your pain and you may have inadvertently made it worse .

Gettin old ain’t for sissies. Had shoulder surgery 9 months ago, but not for anything torn. Just to clean up inside, remove some calcifications, etc. Still have pain, or what they call frozen shoulder. Pain seems like it’s always there but definitely heavy lifting days are done. It sucks and is mentally tough to get over.

A little update guys.. So my insurance is paying for it all (I pay 10%) and my doctor is going to prescribe oxy 30ct 2 scripts, so I should be more than golden there. He really seemed persistent to get me in as soon as possible as he fears that I may have torn another ligament in there, but he won't know until he goes in. I was doing some research tonight and I was reading up on the healing aspects of Var. I've always know it was good for healing as far as burn victims and Aids patients are concerned, but there is a major study going on right now for rotator cuff surgery and Var at 12.5 mgs a day. It started in 2018 and will run through 2022. Most of you that know me, know who I buy my var from. I tested it recently because my lady wanted to give it a shot on a cycle, and it's as pure as it gets. So, even though I'm technically cruising, I was thinking about running it 15mgs a day and see what happens. I love being on var, I look lean, pumps, etc. And since I can't workout for the near future or do anything else it seems as my arm will be in a sling for at least 4-6 weeks and nothing for the first 2. Might as well give it a go and see if I can cut those 4-6 weeks down and see what happens.

Thanks for the advice everyone on the ice machine. I found the Ossur brand for about 150$ - most are about that range 150-200, so I'm gonna keep it cold while I heal. I read that longer durations with that machine will actually heal the area up, but that remains a mystery. All I know is that everyone is recommending it, so why not. Var, proviron, test, oxy, ice machine, yup, I got this. I'm not at all looking forward to this, but I got this. I'm trying not to let things get me down, it wasn't not too long ago, early december, I was just cut on a bit to fix a minor hernia, and I will say, I healed up extremely fast, and now that I think about it, I was using var after that.. hmmm. okay, I got this now. hahaha. Hernia is one thing, shoulder is something entirely different, but I have only a few days to prep for this thing and get things in order. Hell, I have even been teaching myself to eat left handed and do minor things as if my arm was in a sling. This will probably be the most difficult surgery to overcome, not because of what I'm going through, but the fact that I can't use my arm for weeks. Never had something that makes me feel so helpless in a way. Thanks to everyone here for the confidence boost. Getting older does suck, but I'm 48, and I'm not giving up yet.

      Thanks everyone!

Take it easy brother, and listen to the doc. I had three surgeries on the same shoulder cause I didn't listen the first two times. Healing is a long slow process. I'm turning 48 next month so I understand where your coming from.

Definitely! There are guys here saying, hit it fast and my other doctor, who was helping me with lower back pain (with little positive results I might add) was saying the same thing also. I don't think it's bad advice, as each doctor approaches their views differently. My back doctor - who I was / am seeing for nerve blocks (my insurance needs 3 tests before the injection for the block can be given to verify that the doc is hitting the right nerve, however, it's all over the place, first it's the sac join, then l4-l5, then upper right, then upper left, then back to l4-l5 now finally back to sac joint and then I get the nerve block - so it's been frustrating). They offer the prp blood plasma injections for 350$ in the shoulder 2-3 times over the course to help it heal faster. I asked my medical assistant and she said, yeah, he's not a fan. Why? Because he looks at the scientific data and nothing is conclusive and he has never had a patient who did it and came back and said positively it works. So he's out on it until he sees evidence. I get that. I totally do. He told me that first 2 weeks, it's in a sling and there's nothing to do, but let it heal and cold compresses. after that, he writes me a script for rehab but even then it's just doing minor things to avoid pulling that tendon apart with the use of muscles. He's 53-54 and seems like he's really a positive doc and he's been doing this for 20 years. One thing that I've learned is that I listen to my docs and get a feel for it and go from there.

I will update everyone on this thread and mention my doses if I go up or down. But one thing is for certain, I will not push this beyond what I can do. I'm older now, it takes longer to heal, and I get that. I'm not 23. It sucks but positive vibes for sure! Thanks again for everyone's well wishes.. It means a lot to me.

jackin' off? Come on, I can read between the lines. hahahahahah. Holding her hair up for her also. I have been practicing and somethings will be difficult until I learn them (no i'm not talking about playing wack o mole) , a buddy told me - it's when you start to get used to using your left and you forget one day and you try to move your right arm - that is gonna kill ya.. hah. I think rotator cuff or back probs or tendon, everything is a fear for us who love the weights!

I'm with you also. I know I probably hurt my shoulder back in my early 30s when I started out. I'm 5'8 and 165 at the time and I was benching 315. To me, that's impressive. It's also effing heavy as hell and for what? To say to my other buddies I can do it? I've hit 315 several times in my 40s no problem. But one time, it hurt like a bitch for a while and maybe it was tearing more, but I finally came to the conclusion is why? Why do I NEED to lift 300+ except for my ego? Yea, it's a feat for sure, but for what? I got the girl. I feel great, body still looks great for being in my early 40s at the time, but why? I spent a year in physical therapy for my back and shoulder and just said, why? why why? I started watching Jeff Cavalier over on youtube and honestly, training like an athlete is really how my body is designed. I have a small frame, I burn carbs fast, and yeah, I love the pumps and adrenaline, but I don't need to lift 315 to get there. So - After breaking my 25+ year habits of working out for 2 hours at a time, or doing insane amount of cardio, I stopped. I did 1 hour workouts, HIT like what he does on his channel. Yeah, I ditched a lot of things that I did because well, everyone does it and I was shown it - so habit. After I broke that habit and started working on my inner core, used anavar for a few cycles, I achieved it finally after a ton of work. I never lifted anything over 225. I didn't need to. I did lots of reps, and some days, just 4 sets of chest on bench but only 3-5 reps. same with everything. Then rinse and repeat. Took days off the gym and cardio. and people were blown away by my transformation. I loved feeling lighter. I felt strong and I know that's the way I need to roll moving forward. Hell, 48, 165-170 and 10-11% bf, cut .. I'll take that any day of the week! haha. I just wished I would have done that in my 30s.. would have saved me a lot of pain and frustration.. and not to mention, doctor bills! ugh. With age comes wisdom I suppose..
