      bum knee

I am wondering these days which is worse for a bad knee heavy weight or reps. Right knee just bad from genetics my grandfather had both of his replaced at 78 years old always had trouble with my right knee just aggravated with it. I laid off the Superman lifting and started doing reps with 225 and 255 but thinking maybe the higher reps are gonna take it out faster than heavy weight.

I would say they are pretty close to eachother. You need to do something you can sustain forever

If I had to pick one I would say the heavy weight. The heavier the weight the more compressed the knee cartilage (articular, meniscus) becomes causing it to wear down quickly and inhibiting the full range of motion.

I would find a comfortable weight and stick with it, but if it is genetics they may fail one day anyway.

Do you know the exact reason what is causing your knee problems?

Not really other than I have noticed my right knee has always had a lil ache to it and feels different than my left knee. Like I said my grandfather his knees were bad and eventually had them replaced. He was a big man naturally 250-260 and worked hard physically. I remember him picking up and changing tires for dump trucks and 18 wheelers big heavy rims and tires change them by himself. He always blamed it on that plus him being a big Guy but doctor told him he just had bad genetics in his knees. I have to warm up a few extra sets with legs before im comfortable putting much weight on the bar when squatting. Leg presses don't do me to bad.

With a predisposition for potential knee issues for you, I would drastically reduce use of it. Something like resistance training and calisthenics would be ideal. You know you the best. I would make sure to have a glucosamine regimen just to keep things lubed. How you seen a physician yet?

You might try using Rehband knee sleeves. The neoprene keeps your knee's warm and provide extra support when working out. I use them every other workout and they really help when I start to ache.
