It's always a possibility. Best bet is to focus on the muscle every rep. And don't sacrifice form and body mechanics just to get another rep. When form goes, stop the set. Even when taking a set to failure...go only to positive failure. A partner can give you a nudge for a forced rep or 2. But don't lose form even on those. Be patient. I had only a few muscle tears in 50 years of training...and I trained very heavy...but with control. Momentum is a muscles worse enemy!

Pray for good genetics too. At 40 my body says "hey let's doooo ohhhh I don't know 3 spine surgeries and 6 hernia's."
I just had 4 hernia's repaired a few months back...I'm on week 2 back to the gym aaaaand I have another one that popped out while doing rows today. Thank God for good insurance otherwise I'd be fucked. One guy can be like me, lift heavy asf, College ball, and gear for 17yrs with zero issues, and boom 6 surgeries in 3 yrs. The next guy plays ball 2 yrs in College and is done with a serious injury.
Sometimes our body predicates what we can and can't do.
But for the sake of this thread absolutely strict form is paramount to staying injury free. Abso'fucking'lutely.

So true Riggs! I've always answered the question " What do I need to do to be a great powerlifter or bodybuilder?" like this. PICK THE RIGHT PARENTS. Unfortunately it's the one thing we have no control of. Then I'd answer "You have take the hand your dealt and be the best you can be". Most of us actually fall into that category. BE AN OVER ACHEIVER! They often beat a talented guy with a low work ethic.

For me its shoulder injuries. I've had 3 on my left and 2 on my right and just tore my right rotator cuff again a few weeks ago. Had an mri and my doctor said its only a 15-20% tear so thankfully no surgery but another set back. Sucks getting old

Have you ever ask yourself "WHY DO WE DO THIS TO OURSELVES?" The average person would say because we're crazy....maybe a little bit! But. It's our DNA! We are the Warriors of the World! 1000 years ago we'd have been the Vikings or the Hilanders out doing battle and protecting the average people in the tribe. What does a Warrior do when he's wounded? He stays in the battle and fights. It's in our blood...we can't help it! Here I am. About to turn 65 and 1 yr.+ into a comeback. With a replaced knee, 2 replaced shoulders and a kidneys gone and this morning I did 315 x 6 with a Big Daddy version of a slingshot on the bench. Don't sound like much but I'm as happy as a kid hitting his 1st 225! Why? Because I'm back in the battle and feel like I'm ME! again. Most of my family thinks I'm crazy. I say YEAH! Ain't it great! I know they can never understand...but that's their loss! I'm back in my element!!!!!
