      Programs

Alright with so many different programs these days, which have you guys seen the best results with? I know it will differentiate between individuals. I’m looking to shoot for a comp late next year. Just been back into the gym for 6 months after a few year hiatus ( talk more about it in my intro). But as of now my squat sucks. Haven’t done a 1rm yet but as of today I was doing 205x5 for 7 sets. I’m also looking to add mass in the same time as I would like to do a classic physique show as well. I know it’s hard to do. But I’m willing to put in the work. I appreciate any insight brothers!

With these goals you’d be way better off hiring a coach. Imo I would either stick to training for strength or train for a BB show. It’s almost impossible to stay BB ready while training for a powerlifting meet. A lot of guys now days have these crazy expectations because they see guys like Larry wheels and such. It’s just not reality brother. Make a goal and stick to it one at a time

Agree, some people(eg. Larry Wheels) are genetic freaks. The rest of us must set more realistic goals. Starting strength is a decent starting point or strong lifts if you can’t power clean.

I think I’d like to do a meet before a show. With the strength will come a good base for a show in the future. I stay lean year round. Fluctuates some but I always keep abs no matter how much I eat. I do construction and lift so it all keeps me lean.

Thanks brother. Gonna keep looking at programs, so many coaches out there. Hard for me to find and trust one.

Strength gains I find it much better to eat as much as possibly to maintain weight or slowly gain.

Heavy Dieting is not optimal for strength gains

You want to be in a small surplus to increase recovery, but try to avoid weight shooting up too quick cause it will change your leverages and there’s a learning curve there.

I’d cut up before or after a powerlifting prep. Get down to about 8 percent bf then use to powerlifting Preps to build strength and lean mass

      Good luck brah

531 is not too bad for adding strength if you're still at a fairly beginner/intermediate level. Depending on the accessory work you do, you can also add some mass.

Check out 5th set powerlifting. By the top powerlifting coach in 2016. It’s a powerlifting program that can be run year round and is great for off season and peaking. You’ll be able to find the pdf for free with a google search. It’s simple yet effective and utilizes sub-max training. Highly recommend.
