I too compete in the uspa...I set a state record in the bench last fall in the 60-64 age group...a few months later someone destroyed the record even surpassing the national record by 50 pounds...20 years ago I could bench 450 in a single ply inzer and could do 400 raw...it is amazing how getting old affects your strength...

I started bodybuilding in my late teens...first meet was 1983 mr. Ohio...I came in the middle of the pack in the light heavyweight division...competed in another 10-12 meets until 1994...I won the mr akron in the heavyweight division at about 210 pounds at 6'2"...I always used a HIT style of training...I was a strong bencher...I was able to bench 405 touch and go....I then started doing bench meets...I was always in the 220s...first meet I benched 400 in a super loose inzer single ply...over the next 5 years I worked my way up to 450 at age 40...I always trained 3 days a week on a push, pull legs routine...kept it simple...I ruptured a quad tendon in 2002...that was the beginning of the end...I tried coming back but only got to 430...I then tore a pec and then a tricep tendon rupture at 47...I can now get 315 once a year after a 10 week cycle...I only supplement with 500 mgs of test and 200 mgs of deca...I usually eat 3 meals a day...eggs, turkey sandwich, and chicken and rice/potatoes for dinner with some fruit each day...again, I always keep it simple..
