Grew up United Penticostal, very strict life. I still believe 100% thT there is a god and one day I will stand before him and answer for my life, he and I had a difference in opinion over a fiancé that was killed in a car accident when I was out to sea. I don't attend church anymore, but I know that there is a hole in my life that nothing else can fill. I don't know if I will ever go back.
The only true failure is quitting, any other attempt is practice!

I'm an atheist... Just out of curiosity, not to stir up a heated debate or anything, just talking... Why do you guys give so much credit to "God" for turning your life around? You deserve the credit! Just because you "heard a voice in your head" doesn't mean it was a higher power. It was you!
Either way I'm glad you guys turned things around and are helping others but give yourselves more credit...

I was brought up roman catholic BTW...
I like the message of Buddhism!
I have a real hard time with the whole "worship me or you'll suffer for eternity" thing! Buddhism teaches more about being a good person because it's the right thing to do not because there is a reward in it.

Have you guys studied the different religions and then go with the one that seemed to make the most sense to you or do you just follow what your parents brought you up with?

Frank I'm glad you asked bro,I welcome the opportunity to share my faith..the reason I give Him all the glory, Id been in and out of rehabs for many years working on my addiction, it wasn't until I came to understand and believe that Christ died on the cross for my sins, not only for my sins but for many other provisions such as healing..when I received Him into my life I wasnt looking for freedom of addiction,I was looking for life..being an addict,I was looking and trying to fill a void in my life that I believe only God can fill and did..that's where my freedom and healing from addiction came, I'm no longer searching to fill that void,Christ filled it with peace, contentment, joy and I actually know how to love now..hope that made sense..I don't ever hear voices, it's always what I feel in my heart, and I've learned to associate that with God..and no I've never studied any other religion just because I know and believe my God to be the one true God...and bro there's no other reward like life, true life, then eternity with Him...there's so much more to it than that..The love of Christ for us all is very deep and broad...again, hope it made alil sense, hard typing allot on tapatalk

I understand what you're saying and respect it completely. I guess I see the god of the bible as a jealous, angry, threatening, murdering, I could go on and on about the actions of this god prove to be anything but loving.
But, one of my favorite sayings is "When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change." I think alot of religious people create their own perception of him and make him into something he really isn't (loving) But again that's just my thought. I respect everybody's beliefs, I'm just sharing my thinking on it.
