Australia: A MAN has been charged with drug trafficking after police allegedly found speed, cannabis, dozens of ecstasy pills and anabolic steroids after a car search on Saturday night.

Members of the Highway Patrol pulled over a 24-year-old Castlemaine man in Kangaroo Flat about midnight.

Officers, with the assistance of the Central Victorian Response Unit, arrested the man and raided his Etty Street home.

Sergeant Mick Peckham said officers allegedly uncovered about 86 ecstasy pills, about eight times the trafficable quantity of amphetamine, a small amount of cannabis, and four or five vials of steroids.

“Who knows where these drugs were destined to go,” he said.

“To intercept the drugs in that manner was very pleasing.

“They can’t go out and do the damage that they do in society.”

Police also retrieved money.

The man had been travelling with several other people when intercepted by traffic officers on High Street.

Sergeant Peckham said police would investigate the other occupants of the vehicle, but said only one person had so far been charged.

"He was interviewed at the Castlemaine Police Station and was charged with multiple trafficking and possession charges," he said.

"He was bailed to appear at Castlemaine Magistrates Court at a date in July."
