Tips from Edmontonians lead to illegal steroid production and distribution facility

All it took was a few tips from vigilant citizens to lead police to a "sophisticated" illegal steroid production and distribution facility in Edmonton.
According to Crime Stoppers, the lab contained more than 26,000 ml of liquid steroids, over 183,000 steroid pills and close to 17,000 grams of steroid powder.
The total value of the illegal steroids was over $600,000.
"The ripple effect of getting these illegal drugs off the street is huge," said Curtis Nikel, president of the Crime Stoppers Association of Edmonton and Northern Alberta.
"Often where drugs are involved other violent or criminal acts exist also, so the discovery of this very established drug lab will undoubtedly diminish ancillary crime in this city."
Edmonton police were not available for comment on the steroid lab.
So far this month, the Crime Stoppers board awarded $2,300 to tipsters who provided information to Edmonton police in five different cases. A stolen vehicle and licence plate was recovered, local and Canada-wide warrants were executed, along with the arrest of a suspect in possession of a concealed weapon.
So far this year, Crime Stoppers has received 1,074 tips for Edmonton, resulting in 23 arrests and 93 cases cleared. For northern Alberta, there has been 778 tips for 2014, resulting in 21 arrests and 50 cases cleared.
A further $5,750 in rewards have been authorized in Edmonton for 2014 and $3,800 for Northern Alberta.
