Spanish police arrest 18 in doping ring

MADRID (AP) — Spanish police say they have broken up a doping ring that allegedly supplied athletes with illegal performance-enhancing drugs.

Spain's Civil Guard said Friday that the ring was led by three former athletes. Eighteen people were arrested after raids in the provinces of Valencia, Cantabria, Sevilla and Barcelona.

Thousands of doses of doping substances, including anabolic steroids, growth hormones, clembuterol, and EPO, were found.

The Civil Guard said three of the people taken into custody worked at two retirement homes in Valencia where they stole drugs.
