The FBI and the DEA are in the midst of a major investigation into the illegal use of steroids by local police officers and deputies with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Gossip Extra has learned exclusively.

High-level law enforcement sources tell me several doctors’ offices and pharmacies were raided over the past couple of weeks. The medical records of police officers from West Palm Beach and other local departments were seized.

Although the feds aren’t talking, word is that the records of as many as 500 local law enforcement personnel are being analyzed.
“It’s about steroids but that’s all we know,” said one source at PBSO. “It’s a federal thing. They’re keeping us out of the loop.”

Word is that a West Palm Beach cop busted for the second time and facing serious charges was offered a deal by federal prosecutors to help dismantle the wide network of illegal steroid distribution.

It’s not the first time that the use of muscle-growth drugs by police sparked investigations in these parts.
In 2005, as many as 14 officers at the West Palm Beach Police Department were investigated even though doctors had prescribed steroids to them. One was cleared and 13 were suspended.
