Wedding guest trashed room after mixing steroids and alcohol
A WEDDING guest who trashed a hotel room has been branded "an absolute fool" for mixing steroids and alcohol.
Jamie Neale, aged 25, caused so much damage that the room cost nearly £2,500 and took almost three weeks to clean and repair, Plymouth magistrates were told.
He also drove from and to the wedding reception at the New Continental in the city centre while just under three times the legal alcohol limit.
His solicitor blamed a combination of stress and a mixture of alcohol and bodybuilding supplements for making him wreck the room.
Handing down a suspended prison sentence, a five-year driving ban and ordering him to pay all the compensation, presiding magistrate Hazel Poad said: "Taking alcohol and steroids could have been a lethal cocktail.
"You were an absolute fool."
Neale, of West Down Road, Beacon Park, admitted causing criminal damage of £2,148 to the television set, carpet and wallpaper of his room on February 12.
The court heard the costs of repairing and cleaning the room made the total bill £2,483.
Neale also admitted drink-driving on the same date.
He was found to have 102 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
The legal limit is 35.
Neale also admitted driving without insurance and otherwise than in accordance with a licence.
Michael French, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said Neale and his partner went to a wedding reception at the New Continental Hotel on February 12.
He added Neale was drinking throughout the day and at about 9.30pm took the car keys from his partner.
Mr French said: "It appears he lost control of himself and quite possibly his temper."
He added Neale drove home and then back to the hotel in a Renault Megane.
Mr French said: "He went back to his room and caused a significant amount of damage by throwing things around.
"He broke the television set, cut himself in the process and smeared blood on the walls."
He added the room was out of use for three weeks, which lost the hotel even more money on top of the £2,483 it had to pay out. The court heard it was his third offence of drink-driving in the last eight years.
Mackenzie Robinson, for Neale, said he had been under a great deal of stress at the time because his partner was suffering from a serious illness.
He added that their son also had epilepsy.
He added the dockyard worker had taken alcohol on top of bodybuilding supplements which caused him to act 'out of character'.
