      Its what is attached to a compound to extend its half life. Testosterone base (no ester attached) exits the body quickly. There are tons of esters but acetate, propionate, phenylpropionate, cypionate, enanthate and undecanoate are some of the more common ones.

      In the US we largely use testostetone cypionate for injectable testosterone replacement therapy.
