I've had a lot of success with IM. Works great for me. My only issue was the timing of it since I was also doing the 16/8.....I wanted to make sure I could always have dinner with the fam, but at the same time I didn't want to lift on an empty stomach in the AM and then have to wait 4 hours or whatever before eating. When my schedule permitted I was able to lift at noon which was perfect and eat until 8pm, and after following that regimen with IM for several months I got into the best shape I've ever been in.

You can drink black coffee and it won't spike your insulin enough and doesn't have enough cals to break the fast. I would typically wake up at 5am, drink black coffee and take a shot of HGH. Really got me going in the AM and I think helped get me more lean.

These day I only lift 3 days a week, but it has to be in the morning due to my schedule, so I only IM on the days that I don't lift. Still seems to be pretty effective at keeping me lean though.

I didn't count cals. I only tried to hit my protein goal which is 200g per day. If I felt I wasn't losing fat fast enough I planned on cutting down on carbs but fortunately that never seemed to be an issue for me.

I believe certain supplements also will not cause an insulin spike such as potassium, sodium, and magnesium. Which is important to keep in check if you have a long fast period, being as a water flush doesn't flush only toxins but also minerals. I always intake my minerals and beginning or end of my fast though.

I can attest that intermittent fasting works well for cutting, and can also be used during bulking (but is probably not ideal). Getting enough electrolytes is important, especially if combining IF with keto/low carb due to less glycogen in your muscle tissues acting as a repository. When cutting, I take 1/2 -1/4 tsp lite salt & magnesium tablets in the morning and and evening which resolved the issue for me (no more headaches & muscle cramps). When I started experimenting with IF and bulking I discovered that I did not need the lite salt any more as I was getting enough sodium via regular food (but you have to track what you eat to know this). I found that I lost more weight when combining IF with keto/low carb, but there is an adjustment period for most folks as their body switches from using glucose to ketones for fuel. The most difficult part for me with bulking when using IF and low carb is trying to get enough calories during your eating window...

The most common and I think best way is the 16/8 rule. Meaning you fast for 16 hours then have a 8 hour window to gets meal in to reach you total daily calories. As long as you follow that guideline you’ll be g2g. Ideally you wake up, do a little fasted cardio; then break the fast and get a meal or two in, hit a workout, get another meal or two in (3-4 meals ideally 4 broken down to 500 calories based off the info you provided); then go back into your fast.

      Hope that helps

What are your thoughts on artificial sweeteners and 1 carb creamers in coffee during the fasted state?

I fkn hate black coffee, but I love coffee. I had great success from Jan - May with IF and was also drinking coffee with Splenda and original powder creamer. It’s slightly a caffeine thing, but also just that I like coffee haha

I’ve seen mixed opinions on Splenda specifically, that it’s still tricking the brain into thinking it’s no longer in a fasted state and to carry on as if so. And the opposite.

Honestly I’ve never looked into it because I like my coffee straight up. However if you had success then the results speak for themselves my friend. So Splenda that shit up

Black coffee is definitely way to go when fasting.

Check out Thomas DeLauer YTs on this. He goes into a lot of research and cites the actual studies. Personally, I was using the MIO electrolytes drink first week and my results weren’t good. Found out the sweetener might affect insulin, so I cut it out, and my results were much better. Hope this helps brother!
